City of Manchester Stadium facilities

The City of Manchester Stadium (also known as Etihad Stadium) was originally built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games at a cost of £110 million.

It is the 5th largest stadium in the FA Premier League and the 12th largest in the United Kingdom.

The pitch is the wildest and overall largest in England at 106 x 70 metres.

The stadium is licensed for wedding ceremonies.

Manchester City facts

Manchester City was first founded as St. Mark's (West Gorton) in 1880. They then became Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887 before changing their name to Manchester City Football Club in 1894.

The clubs original founder, Anna Connell, is the only woman to have catalysed the formation of a major football club.

The club crest is based on the arms of the city of Manchester and features a ship representing the Manchester Ship Canal and three diagonal stripes for the city's three rivers. The bottom of the badge bears the motto Superbia in Proelio, which translates as Pride in Battle in Latin.

Manchester City have had three homes in their 130 history: Hyde Road (1887 to 1923), Maine Road (1923 to 2003) and the City of Manchester Stadium (2003 - ).
