This incredible PADI open water course will set you on your way to becoming a fully qualified scuba diver
If you've ever wanted to learn to scuba dive, to go on a wonderful adventure or just to see the world beneath the waves then this is where it all begins. This PADI Open Water Referral course takes in both the classroom and confined water dives sections of the full qualification, allowing you to complete the open water dives needed to finish the course at a later date (and usually in warmer seas!). With many people taking the entire Open Water course abroad and using valuable holiday beach time stuck in a classroom, this is an ideal way to take the first lessons in a convenient location before ‘diving in’ at your convenience to speedily finish the latter part of the course in the future.
The course is split into 5 sessions with 3 confined water dives and two classroom sessions.
Session 1 - an introductory pool dive aiming to teach the correct way to breathe under water and gain confidence and experience scuba diving. You will be given a DVD to take home and watch in your leisure time.
Session 2 - a classroom session teaching the challenges that you will come across in an underwater environment and the techniques you can apply to overcome them. You will then move to the pool for a practical session concentrating on underwater safety.
Session 3 - In this lesson you will be taught about issues you need to be aware of when breathing compressed air whilst underwater. You will also be taught how to keep yourself safe by using the electronic Recreational Dive Planner. In the pool you will review everything taught in sessions 1 and 2 and learn to master neutral buoyancy. Please note this session takes place at a different pool to sessions 1 and 2.
Once completed you will be given an Open Water Referral Form and Dive Centre Letter which can be passed onto the school where you complete the course with four open water dives.
This experience is available at Derbyshire:
Derbyshire (Midlands) - Ilkeston
You will receive a voucher valid for 10 months. The experience is suitable for those aged 15 years or above. A medical form must be filled out upon arrival at the diving centre. You must be able to swim to take part but no previous scuba experience is necessary. All you will need to take along on the day is a swimming costume and towel - all the scuba gear is provided for you. Session 1 runs every Saturday, session 2 on alternate Saturdays and session 3 runs on alternate Sundays at a separate, nearby location. The course does not qualify you as a full PADI open water diver as four open water dives are required to complete the training. The official paperwork provided can be taken to any PADI dive store in the world to finish the course.
