The website says '... help you to take professional-looking digital photographs using your own compact camera, digital SLR or mobile phone!'
You can't take anything as basic as your mobile phone. And a digital compact camera would still be too basic for this course. We were quite disapointed with this as the point of the day was to learn to best use our small compact camera. Luckily we were still able to use the gift as we'd sort of planned to buy an SLR camera anyway.
My mum and I went to the Chatsworth venue. The website quotes 'With entry to your choice of a range of venues' which is also incorrect. After meeting our tutor, who was lovely and very knowledgeable, we then stayed in a function room all day bar 45 mins at lunch, a 20 minute break. We only had 40 minutes actually out taking photographs. And then only places we could take our photo's were in the car park, cafe and around the outsides of house. So we didn't get entry into the gardens or the house as anticipated. I can not speak for all venues on this subject but Chatsworth has so much to offer and we just didn't get to enjoy it as expected.
We both did learn a lot from the course and it is brilliant for gaining an understand of the basics in photography, including the camera's technology and the composition of images. And as outlined above, Rachel, the tutor was very good. But overall the day wasn't as hands-on as we would have liked and it definately isn't suitable for anything other than DSLR cameras.
