About Sphereing
For those who’ve ever felt a deep and enduring curiosity as to the sensation of being inside a washing machine, Sphereing may well be right up your aisle. Defined as ‘the practice of humans traveling in a sphere, generally made of transparent plastic, usually for fun’, (what other reasons are there for traveling in a plastic sphere we wonder; commuting?), Sphereing offers a truly revolutionary adventure experience.
Gargantuan, double-hulled balls of plastic allows riders to roll down hills and other things comforted by a nice air layer, all at an exhilarating 30 miles an hour and just perfect for watching the world roll by.
As if this talk of washing machines wasn't enough, why not throw yourself into Aqua Sphereing? A harnessless activity in which you tumble down valley and dale saturated by thirty litres of turbulent water? Detergent and fabric softener not included.
Sphereing
- Sphereing is reputed to have debuted as early as 1973 in Russia. We’re desperately resisting making a series of terrible jokes about ‘revolutions’.
- Peter Gabriel of the 70s band Genesis sphered as part of the "Growing Up" tour. Lowered from overhead scaffolding, Peter then proceed to roll around the stage in it, singing using a wireless headset microphone. Quite the spectacle.
- Not to be outdone, Wayne Coyne of Oklahoma psychadelic rockers The Flaming Lips begins each show by sphereing out into the audience and then back to the stage.

…as the sphere picks up speed and my world becomes a bouncing, disorientating blur, I get used to the insane hamster-wheel feeling and begin to whoop with pleasure…
