Our fantastic sailing and yachting experiences range from hands-on ship steering to relaxing pleasure boating trips for two - perfect for an aquatic adventure with a loved one or friend. Set sail in a magnificent monohull sailing ship for an unforgetable sea-faring experience, or take a pleasure ride on a Tall Ship and see how these incredible machines are manned by their crews. Why not have a go at sailing with a half-day of lessons, or even gain an essential RYA qualification and become a serious sailor?
Facts About Yachting and Sailing Experiences
-
New Zealand's most famous yachtsmen Sir Peter James Blake secured two America's Cup Victories, won the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1989, and the Jules Verne Trophy in 1994 by setting the fastest time around the world of 74 days 22 hours 17 minutes 22 seconds on the catamaran "Enza". That's also a variety of apple in New Zealand, and the folk of that fair nation all wore red socks during his victories.
-
Credited with captaining the first circumnavigation of the globe, the Portuguese Ferdinand Magellan, in the midst of a thrashing tempest, discovered what's now known as The Magellan Strait, a route through the South American continent to the Pacific. Sailing for three years, Magellan met his unfortunate demise in the Philippines in 1521.
