Facts about Steam Trains
- The Peruvian Central Railway can lay claim to being the World's highest railway, climbing more than 13,000 feet (about 2.5 miles!) over the course of the journey. There is a doctor on board to administer oxygen to people not accustomed to high altitudes!
- Indian Railways is the world's largest commercial employer, with over 1.6 million employees. One of the biggest and most bustling rail networks in the world, the railway is said to transport eighteen million passengers and over two million tonnes of freight daily.
- The author of those famous children’s books about a certain Tank Engine by the name of Thomas was one (marvelously named) Reverend Wilbert Vere Awdry. During his son Christopher’s bout of measles in 1943, the Reverend invented the characters in a story entitled ‘The Three Railway Engines’ from which the famous Thomas, Percy, Gordon and the Fat Controller sprang.

Customer Reviews of Our Steam Train Trips
Bought two day excursion on the orient express tickets for my mum and dad as it was their 50th anniversary and mum had always loved the Christie novel. They had two three course meals, champagne and stopped at several beautiful towns, said I couldn't have got them anything nicer.

My dad is a steam train fanatic and owns about a million books about them, so I thought for his 70th I'd take him on the Steam Train Dining Experience. The staff were really kind and helped him aboard, congratulating him when I told them it was his birthday. We enjoyed a four course dinner and were given small bottles of champagne to keep. He felt really special and appreciated.

My son bought me a steam train trip on the orient express because I've always been a railway enthusiast. To have the beautiful train pulled by a steam locomotive was an incredible experience. The service was wonderful throughout the journey and the food they served up was exquisite. No complaints whatsoever.
