About the Orient Express
Resplendent in chrome and copper, the Orient Express conjures a rather satisfying picture of grace and panache and mechanical might. Return to that golden age of travel with Buyagift’s truly spectacular array of Orient Express train trips and experience days on the Orient Express.
As England’s pastures green slip contentedly by you'll be whisked away to a sepia world of charming grandeur, impeccable detail, of crystal and velvet. Train travel has become so very pedestrian: all impersonal tellers and ticket machines, austere interiors and wilting sandwiches, hastened departures and minimum leg room. The '20s and '30s were quite a different affair; life progressed at rather a more relaxed pace, gentleman doffed their hats and pressed handkerchiefs. Starch your collars and adjust your monocles, gather your plus fours and dust off your tweeds in preparation for the luxury of a day out on the Orient Express.
Both the British Pullman and the Northern Belle offer lavishly appointed carriages, sumptuous furnishings and elegant decors - the perfect escape from the rigours of modern life. Sip champagne over scrumptious fare, engage in edifying conversation and find out why Agatha Christie chose this decadently decorated train as the location for murder on the Orient Express.
Orient Express Facts
-
Many Orient Express Pullman carriages have been involved in events of historical importance, including the state visit of French President Charles de Gaulle in 1960 and the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill in 1965. The Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh have all taken Orient Express trips as well.
- Mystery, intrigue and expectations of luxury travel go hand in hand with The Orient Express - Bram Stoker, Agatha Christie, Graham Greene and Ian Fleming all sent some of their most iconic characters for day trips on The Orient Express, increasing the train's reputation for dramatic flair.
- George Mortimer Pullman, creator of fabled Pullman trains, left school at the age of 14 to become a coffin manufacturer then gold broker before going into the locomotive business. The carriages of his iconic steam trains derive their original design from the packet boats that traveled the Erie Canal near where Mr. Pullman grew up.

Customer Reviews of Orient Express Experiences
I went on the Orient Express trip to Hever Castle and saw some splendid sights from my carriage window. The train is so impressive and the three course lunch superb. I told my daughter that this was the best birthday present I'd ever had, and I meant it.

For our 40th anniversary our family clubbed together to send both me and my husband for a trip on the Northern Belle. We've always wanted to go on the Orient Express so this was a wonderful gift. To have brunch and then such a fabulous dinner on the way back too was very indulgent, it really was a perfect day.

I'm a major fan of Agatha Christie's murder on the orient express so this murder mystery aboard the actual Orient Express was more than I could ever have imagined! In fact to call it merely a train is doing it a disservice - more a luxurious moving restaurant on rails! The meals we had on board were absolutely delicious! Champagne too!
