About Manchester City Football Club
Formed in 1880, Manchester City FC is Manchester’s original football club. Despite having a less trophy-laden past than their city neighbours, the club is nevertheless steeped in proud history including some of the most famous names in football such as Mercer, Keegan and Allison.
Manchester City FC have always had some of the most loyal and fanatical fans in the country. The sight and sound of thousands of people young and old dressed in sky blue as they belt out a rendition of the anthem ‘Blue Moon’ is the image most synonymous with Manchester City.
Central to Manchester City and its fans has always been an affinity with their home stadium. For over a century it was Maine Road, but since 2002 it has been the majestic City of Manchester stadium. With state of the art technology, cutting-edge design and superb facilities, this magnificent stadium represents some of the best that Manchester has to offer.
Facts about Manchester City and City of Manchester Stadium
- The City of Manchester Stadium was commissioned in 1990 for Manchester’s failed bid for the 2000 Olympics. It was instead used for the Commonwealth Games in 2002, and when Manchester City FC were told they could have a brand new stadium for pretty much nothing, they unsurprisingly jumped at the chance to move in!
- The stadium roof is toroidal in shape, and is suspended from steel cables attached to eight towers, which also provide access to the upper tiers of seating via spiral ramps. The corner areas of the stadium also have manoeuvrable louvres to allow for ventilation of the pitch. We aren’t exactly sure what all this means, but when it sounds that hi-tech it must be pretty good
- The City of Manchester Stadium has won a number of design awards, including the 2004 RIBA Inclusive Design Award, and the 2003 Institution of Structural Engineers Structural Special Award.

Took all the kids to the city of Manchester stadium during the Easter holidays as they were getting excited by the season coming to an exciting finish. A friend recommended Buyagift to me, and I must say their staff were very helpful and the price represented really good value.

I consider myself a big Manchester City fan so, having had a couple of seasons to get used to having left Maine Road, I thought it was about time I had a good look around our new home at the City of Manchester Stadium. I took the opportunity to do just that when I saw the adult ticket on Buyagift. Its a very good tour, staff at the stadium are great, really know their stuff!
