The Facts - F1 Race Cars

In the motor industry, single seater cars are known as ‘open wheeled’ cars. The term is used to describe any vehicle where the wheels are outside the main body of the car. This feature increases the grip and traction control of the car, making them ideal for competitive high speed racing in F1 championships.

Single seater race cars have wings at both the front and the rear of the vehicle, as well as a very low and virtually flat undertray that creates additional aerodynamic downforce. So while the wings on a plane keep you in the air, these wings keep the car on the ground -a very important piece of equipment we’re sure you’ll agree!

The pinnacle of single seater racing is of course Formula 1, with the FI Driver’s Championship being the oldest of the three world championships awarded by the FIA each year. Driving a single seater through the tunnel in to one of the most important motor sport locations in history the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Words can't express the feeling you get putting your foot to the floor in a true racing car on your own around a race circuit like Goodwood - absolutely awesome and unforgettable! What a day! I got a Single Seater Experience at Rockingham as a christmas gift. The race cars were amazing quality, and the adrenaline rush was great. The instructor was just superb, 111%! He gave me some really useful advice and tips on how to handle the cars. I would love to go single seater again, and really understand now why F1 driving is such a popular sport!
