About Donington Park
Originally opened in 1931 as a motorcycle racing venue, Donington Park National Circuit is now one of the most famous driving circuits in the UK.
Unlike many of Britain's racing locations, Donington Park was a racing circuit before the outbreak WWII but closed in 1939 when requisitioned by the Ministry of Defence. After the war, it remained disused and neglected until local construction entrepreneur and motor sport enthusiast Tom Wheatcroft rebuilt the track in the 1970s. Since then Donington Park has held meetings of the British Touring Car Championship, the British round of the Moto GP and the European F1 Grand Prix, famously won by late Ayrton Senna in 1993.
