Drury Lane theatre and meal for two

4 out of 5 18 September 2015
Location: South-east England Age: Over 65 Bought For Relative Occasion: Birthday
The theatre visit was absolutely brilliant. The actress who lead the tour was so knowledgable of the history not just of the theatre but the local area as well. She chatted with humour and excitement about the routines of theatre life as she guided us through both front and backstage areas. The meal itself afterwards was fine, but sadly there was an obvious problem with the restaurant and the gift voucher scheme which cost us more than we expected.
What would you improve for next time? A defined amount of money for the meal.

Gave this as a present for my grandchildren. They loved it and had a wonderful experience. The guide was very informative and gave them many interesting facts about the theatre. They even saw the equipment being tested for the next performance of Charley and the Chocolate Factory

Something different

4 out of 5 01 August 2015
Location: Hampshire Age: 45-54 Bought For Mum Occasion: Christmas
If you want to do something in London that doesn't take up the whole day then this is a good thing to do as it only takes just over an hour . Very interesting information about the history of theatre but not to indepth so you want get bored . Then a short tour around the theatre itself the posh part where the royalty get to watch but also back stage which is no where near as posh. My children really enjoyed the stories about the ghosts . Then afterwards we had a meal which was nice as it was given to us as a Christmas present . All in all a enjoyable experience .

Interesting Tour

3 out of 5 26 July 2015
Location: Kent Age: 45-54 Bought For Sister Occasion: Birthday
The tour was great and very interesting. The guide was very knowledgeable about the theatre and it's history. The only downside to this is that we went on the 2:15 tour and took just over an hour but can't go for the meal until 6pm which means waiting around until then. Convent Garden is an interesting place, if you like shopping, but you don't want to eat or drink too much because you are going for a meal! My advice would be to go to the 4:15 tour so that there is not such a long gap.
What would you improve for next time? It would be better if the meal time was more flexible so that you could go after the tour.

My wife and I got this a anniversary gift and it was faultless. From the moment we arrived on the back stage tour, we were swept up in the enthusiasm of the tour guide. He was extremely talented at keeping our attention, whilst at the same time giving many interesting facts about the history of the theatre. Just when we thought things could not get any better, a second tour guide took over, this time in character. It was wonderful! Each leg was taken by one of these two talented story tellers and made the tour that more enchanting. The meal at Fire and Stone was out of this world. We both ordered the same pizza because it sounded so delicious! We were not disappointed. We were so impressed with the customer service, we will be returning.

Back stage theatre tour

3 out of 5 02 December 2014
Location: Berkshire Age: 55-64 Bought For Colleague Occasion: Birthday
The Theatre Royal tour, Drury Lane, was interesting though we would have liked to have seen the actual stage, back stage and props and even some actors. We enjoyed our tour guide who made it interesting. I chose the Strand Palace Hotel to eat afterwards as my first choice of venue wasn't available when booking. The gift included a two course meal in the carvery. I was disappointed with the meal as there was very little choice of starters, main course and dessert. There was a choice of 2 starters (soup or mozzarella and tomato salad) only 1 main course which was the carvery (roast turkey, beef or ham and roast veg accompaniments). The dessert was passion fruit mousse with no other alternative. The mozzarella salad was very poor and no imagination or quality had gone into this starter. The roast was reasonable, though I would have expected better quality from a London hotel in the Strand. As I had a starter and main course and my gift was for 2 courses, I didn't have the dessert so cannot comment on that, but going by the starter and main course, I wouldn't have held out much hope for the quality of the dessert. Wine was extra with the meal as was tea/coffee if you wanted it. However, the meal was paid for so I appreciate that fact that I didn't have to pay. It was also rather inconvenient that the meal could not be served until 6pm as it meant I and my partner had to find things to do in London from 1pm-6pm, which is not always what you want to do. It would have been better to have had the choice of time for eating the meal rather than it being at 6pm at the earliest.
What would you improve for next time? More of the stage, backstage, props and actors. A meal straight after the tour and not 5 hours later. Better quality food.

Very informative

Location: Newport Age: 35-44 Bought For Partner Occasion: Anniversary
There were only 5 of us which was fab. The tour guide was very informative and provided lots of interesting facts about the history of the theatre. As this is a working theatre, don't expect to actually enter the stage area. The restaurant we chose was nearby, easy to find and was very accommodating as we arrived half an hour early and were seated immediately.
