Historic Tea - Unfortunately Disappointing

3 out of 5 26 September 2015
Recent Retirees
Location: Waterlooville, Hants Age: Over 65 Bought For Daughter Occasion: Anniversary
We have now done 3 different locations Best Bits Amberley Castle Beautiful- best location 10/10 Staff very friendly and attentive Selection of Teas very good Not so good bits Sadly comes last of our current 3 visited venues due to slightly burnt scones, strange sandwich selection and bread quality. Some of the cakes would not be of our choice. Conclusion A beautiful place to visit but expensive if you do not enjoy the Afternoon Tea.
What would you improve for next time? Sandwich and Cake Selection then it would be possibly 9 maybe 10 again it is a beautiful peaceful location

Daughters Birthday Gift

2 out of 5 27 August 2015
Location: essex Age: 45-54 Bought For Myself Occasion: Birthday
We chose to have afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace. I booked this event in June and visited Tuesday 25th August. I was advised by the booking agent of my times and to print off the voucher which was e mailed to me we arrived at the Queens Gallery to find that we were not booked for 1pm, or any time actually! the staff wanted o keep the voucher as proof of payment despite me saying I needed to present it for the afternoon tea. they would not budge and actually stated it was not their fault I hadn't printed 2 copies of the voucher off. we were then told afternoon tea was not actually in the palace but a 20 minute walk away (in the pouring rain). for this reason we could not enter the queens gallery so missed out on this part of the experience altogether as it would have meant not having the voucher for the tea. when we found the venue for afternoon tea which was booked for 3pm, guess what....they didn't have a booking for us there either however did go out of their way to fit us in and we did enjoy what was left of a very stressful day.
What would you improve for next time? definitely there needs to be better communication between all parties and when staff are dealing with people they do need to make it clear that you will need a separate copy f the voucher for each part of the experience. the blurb for this experience specifically states that afternoon tea will be at Buckingham Palace but this is NOT the case.

Afternoon tea Kensington palace

3 out of 5 15 July 2015

Location: Hampshire Age: 55-64 Bought For Son Occasion: Birthday
The visit to the palace was lovely enjoyed being there. Unfortunately the afternoon tea at the thistle Kensington bays water road was very disappointing. It was not what I would have expected as afternoon tea. It consisted of 3 scones, jam and cream tea or coffee, nothing else !! The service wasn't that good either for a large hotel, we had far better service when we had a visit and cream tea at the tower of London. For the price that was paid, I exchanged another pacage and paid extra for this pacage and was extremely disappointed particular for the person who came with me.
What would you improve for next time? a better afternoon tea package.

Lovely Treat

4 out of 5 15 July 2015
Location: Coventry, West Midlands Age: Over 65 Bought For Colleague Occasion: Birthday
It was a thoughtful gift, a lovely treat. Our day at Hampton Court Palace was thoroughly enjoyable, it has been on my list of places to visit for some years and I was not disappointed at all. The tea was delicious and plentiful, it is available all day, which is good. The only slight "quibble" was there was no teapot, one mug of tea each brewed from a tea bag in the mug. Not the image portrayed for afternoon tea, an image that is known worldwide as well as shown on the Buy a Gift website.
What would you improve for next time? It was unclear from the voucher whether entrance to a venue was included.

Don't be fooled by the description

Location: Age: 45-54 Bought For Partner Occasion: Birthday
We chose to go to Kensington Palace - then tea was at the Thistle Kensington Gardens. There were no array of homemade cakes, no fresh sandwiches and no pastries. Just a cup of tea and a scone with cream and jam. One of our party of four doesn't drink tea so asked if it could be swapped for a cold drink - only tap water, anything else has to be paid for. The location certainly isn't a prestigious, elegant or distinguished location - it's a grotty hotel above a petrol station!

Special Afternoon Out

5 out of 5 30 June 2015
Location: Ditchling, East Sussex Age: Over 65 Bought For Relative Occasion: Birthday
The service and setting was perfect and the food delicious. Such a variety of sandwiches, scones,, cakes, etc. Could not fault it. Although it was a birthday gift, it was also our 58th wedding anniversary, so the event was extra special. The hotel is set in the beautiful Sussex countryside, the weather was lovely, so it was a wonderful afternoon out for us..

We had a very nice Afternoon tea for two at Thornbury Castle. The service was very good with a wonderful and ample selection of cakes, scones and sandwiches. The staff were very nice and attended to us very promptly and politely.
What would you improve for next time? Possibly ask what sandwiches you would prefer.

very enjoyable experience

5 out of 5 30 May 2015
Location: Gloucester Age: 45-54 Bought For Sister Occasion: Anniversary
We were given the voucher by family for our silver anniversary. The hotel,Thornbury castle,l is very quirky and beautiful and the lounge and dining room ornate. We were lucky enough to have the champagne experience which was indulgent. There was,a good selection of teas to choose and limited coffee choice. The assorted cakes were delightful, the sandwiches tasty but not the most imaginative fillings. The scones, however, were the best we had ever tasted, perfect texture, just delicious. The service was quick but not intrusive and we had a very relaxed afternoon. Would highly recommended.
What would you improve for next time? Better selection of sandwich fillings.

Historic Afternoon Tea for Two

3 out of 5 04 May 2015
Location: Surrey Age: Over 65 Bought For Son Occasion: Anniversary
Took the option of going to Kensington Palace which was lovely. The inclusive afternoon tea was at the Thistle Hotel nearby. We had saved ourselves - no lunch - ready to indulge, but unfortunately afternoon tea comprised a scone, cream and jam each plus tea or coffee. The manager, I think, felt rather sorry for us when we asked when the sandwiches were coming and did give us an extra scone between us. We had just assumed afternoon tea was the full works. After reading the small print realised it wasn't, not for the Kensington Palace option. this was a gift from our son,so didn't tell him of our disappointment.
What would you improve for next time? Make it clearer - not afternoon tea - but a cream tea
