Historic Afternoon Tea for Two

Bought by: Myself
Occasion: Other occasion
I bought this for my Husband as a birthday present and we went to Hampton Court Palace. We enjoyed our day, but I was very disappointed at the value for money. On going to the office to collect our tickets it was a while before they could be located on their booking system, but we were found in the end and tickets issued. We were told to claim our tea at the Tiltyard Cafe with our voucher. On arriving there (it was a self service cafe) we were told the tea comprised of a scone, jam and cream and pot of tea each, not what I call value for money! I dont think the entrance fee and tea would cost what I paid for the experience. My Husband enjoyed the day which is really what matters, but dont think he would have done if he had known the cost!

Best Christmas Present
Date: 12 April 2011
Rachel
Location: Sheffield
Age: 35-44
Occasion: Christmas
Bought this as a Christmas present for my parents this last year, as I'd wanted something a bit different but had been wracking my brains for a while.
I'd toyed with the idea of getting the 'Afternoon tea at Harrods', but they've both been down to London a few times and been to Harrods, and lovely though I'm sure it is, I wanted something a bit different.
They were delighted on Christmas Day with it - having never seen anything like it before. It didn't take them long, either, to book their visit to the quite beautiful Thornbury Castle.
They received email and telephone confirmation of the booking, before the due date, and a table and comfy chairs were laid out by a lovely roaring fire when they arrived. By all accounts they couldn't have been treated better! Champagne or fruit juice upon arrival, as much tea or coffee as you could drink, beautiful sandwiches of at least 5 different varieties, and easily more than the two of them could ever have eaten, followed by pastries and cakes, again of many, many different kinds and number.
Staff were very attentive but discreet and they had a marvellous afternoon, after which they were allowed to browse the castle and grounds.
Verdict: a wonderful present that will be extremely hard to top this year!
