We used this afternoon tea as a chance to have a reunion of some old friends on a Sunday afternoon. The Vanderbilt is only 5 minutes' walk from the Natural History Museum - the perfect place to meet old friends or acquantancies underneath the dinosaur's tail in the grand entrance hall. We scoot around the museum for 5 minutes, then spent a lazy few hours with a tower of tasty sandwiches and cakes, and champagne by the fire in The Vanderbilt, served by posh but friendly waiters. We treated ourselves to their signature cocktail (worth the £8), then, with a belly full of sandwiches and a head full of champagne, popped along to the Royal Albert Hall for a show.

My wife and i arrived at the Radisson Vanderbilt for Champagne Afternoon Tea at the time booked and reported to the man at the restaurant reception. We were then served a pot of tea! We waited for 1/2 an hour and as no one approached us i went to the four people standing talking to each other in the next room. i advised why we were their and we were then served sandwiches, cakes and the champagne. The sandwiches were ice cold and the egg sandwiches had hardly any filling, and the cucumber sandwiches were unwelcome. I complained and the sandwiches were exchanged for fresh sandwiches and we were given a free pot of tea. This was a £50 gift from our children which was part of an Anniversary present and was supposed to give us a pleasant experience, which it didn't. We both left the Hotel in a disappointed mood and feel that we didn't get value for money. I would not recomend the Radisson Group if this is the level of customer service people can expect to receive.

Having made a telephone booking we arrived to find we were not booked in. This however did not present a problem and we were soon shown to a table. When eventually the afternoon tea arrived the sandwiches were made with fairly thick sliced bread which very quickly became stale, the scones were reasonable and the cake consisted of three small fruit tartlets - bearing in mind there were two of us. After a reminder we were finally served with a glass of champagne - the best part of the experience. As this was a Christmas present it was not the experience we were looking forward to and I would not return.
