Treat yourself to a majestic afternoon floating along the gorgeous banks of the Thames with this picnic cruise. Taking in the most-inspiring sights of Oxford town and the surrounding countryside, you can relax on the water in the stunning surrounds of a charmingly outfitted cruise boat - your gourmet picnic, composed of only the freshest and most enticing local ingredients, is the perfect accompaniment to a serene journey down the picturesque byways of Oxfordshire's countryside. What's more, you'll even receive a carafe of wine to enjoy with your lunch.
Your delightful picnic cruise departs from Folly Bridge at 12.30pm. You'll travel through the city past famous landmarks including Christchurch College, the University boathouses and regatta course, the Head of the River and Folly Bridge itself. From the river you'll take in a side of Oxford's heritage rarely seen by visitors to the city: Quaint Osney Island, well-loved allotments, gardens and the ancient Port Meadow - all of which are off the tourist trail but represent some of Oxford's most beautiful and intriguing scenery. Port Meadow, a vast area of common land, has remained little changed since prehistoric times and supports plants and bird-life in abundance.

At the top of Port Meadow is Godstow. Godstow was the ultimate destination of Alice Liddell and Lewis Carroll when they followed an identical route to our trip while composing 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. It is also the site of Trout Island, an inspiration for another of Oxfords literary icons, C S Lewis, and his stories of the land of Narnia.

Your cruise will last approximately two and a half hours. The gourmet picnic lunch you'll be treated to will be locally sourced from the finest Oxfordshire suppliers, and due to its seasonality, will vary with the time of year. You will also receive a refreshing carafe of wine to enjoy with your lunch. Vegetarians and other dietary restrictions will can be catered to - please mention them when booking.

Pleasant picnic, charming cruise The experience was a gift from my fiance, who accompanied me on the trip. Our knowledgeable and capable captain, Peter, kept us thoroughly entertained with amusing and interesting running commentary throughout the course of our journey. We saw some stunning scenery and amazing animals/ wildlife along the way, including horses, cows, ducks, swans, geese, moorhens and other birds. As we sailed, we leisurely tucked into our picnic lunch - I had asked for a vegetarian option which was a little 'thrown together' with an interesting mix of ingredients but it was adequate nonetheless, and my partner thoroughly enjoyed the meat option which included smoked salmon. The carafe of wine was a nice touch. We shared the experience with five other couples who were all of pensionable age, but they seemed to welcome and accept us younger ones! There was a short stop-off at a pub on the return journey, which was well-received and enjoyable. We felt extremely calm and relaxed throughout and would wholeheartedly recommend this experience to others. 19 June 2014
Memories on the Oxford Thames A Christmas gift to retired parents who grew up in Oxford City. What a gift!!! So many memories from 60+ years ago brought to life by our charming Skipper. The opportunity to see behind the scenes of the changed city, be reminded of our famous history, to revisit Port Meadow from the river rather than over the fields and indulge in nostalgia. Our happy dozen strangers on-board were soon chatting like old friends over a most acceptable picnic lunch, whilst watching and listening to city and countryside glide by. We would both recommend this lunch-time cruise, especially to Oxonians but also to tourists from UK and beyond. 24 May 2014
