Experience the challenge and thrill of riding a Polo pony as you take your first steps to learning this time-honoured, energetic game. From mounted ball skills to polo riding, you’ll revel in this blue-blooded tactical team sport in Ascot Park’s beautiful surrounds and immaculate enclosed all-weather arena. Highly-trained staff and ponies keep lessons challenging yet safe. Following your experience, you are invited to stay on for the practice Club chukkas, Challenge Matches and Tournament polo scheduled.
Your experience will take you through all basic components of the game to give you an understanding of the sport. You will spend time learning the rules and tactics by watching a demonstration by your instructor using a board with miniature pieces. You will then stand on an elevated platform with a shortened polo mallet and be taught the polo swing and the four basic shots. Then get onto your horse and learn how to ride a polo pony. Finally, put it all together by doing some stick and ball (riding your horse and hitting a ball in solo practice). Following the introductory lesson you have the opportunity to progress to playing an instructional chukka - where you can enjoy playing competitive polo and expand upon what you 've already learned. Light lunch and drinks are available to purchase on-site, and beautiful local country pubs are nearby.

Your voucher is valid for ten months for one person. The course is run every Saturday morning throughout winter and every Saturday and Sunday morning throughout spring and summer. The course runs from 9am until 11am and instructional chukkas run from 11:30am. Play is conducted in most weather conditions, as the arena has an excellent all weather surface. You are nevertheless advised to bring additional waterproofs. The minimum age is approximately 12 years (to join in with adults in Discover Polo). Children as young as 4 are welcome within the training centre - please speak to the polo office for more details. Maximum weight; 20 stone. All polo equipment will be provided; but please bring your own (regardless of style) if you have them to ensure the best fit. Suitable outdoor shoes with a small heel are recommended (no trainers) but bring you own riding boots if you have them. Instructors are all Hurlingham Polo Association accredited.

My polo experience was fantastic. I've always loved horses so to ride at Ascot was a dream. The instructors were really patient and once I got the hang of riding with the mallet (a lot harder than it looks) it was really fun!

I would recommend this to anyone. It does not matter if you can ride or not as the horses are so good! Its a fantastic experience and is very addictive. Pardon the pun but I am hooked on the sport and have returned for more lessons. The club is very friendly and the instructors are excellent. Whether you go as a group or on your own you will have a thoroughly unforgettable day.
