Eden Project fact-file

The Eden Project

Rainforest Biome

The Eden Project's Rainforest Biome is home to 3.9 acres of the world's largest jungle in captivity. Standing at 55 metres high, it consistently maintains a tropical temperature and moisture level ensuring that plants such as banana trees, coffee, rubber and giant bamboo can thrive.

Mediterranean Biome

The Mediterranean Biome covers 1.6 acres and is smaller than the Rainforest Biome at 35 metres. Concentrating on plants from geographical areas such as the Mediterranean, South Africa and California, the Mediterranean Biome houses plants including lemon trees, olive trees, vines and perfumed herbs.

Outside Biome

The Eden Project's biggest Biome is the sky! Located outside of the thermoplastic structures in a beautifully transformed clay pit, here the Project cultivates temperate crops such as tea, lavender and hops that provide our foods, fuels, medicines and materials.

The Core

The Core is the Eden Project's education centre where children and adults alike can learn about everything from ecosystems and evolution, to climate change and plant resources. In the evenings the Core transforms into an arts venue hosting live acts and DJs throughout the year.
