The Facts - F1 Race Cars

  • In the motor industry, single seater cars are known as 'open wheeled' cars. The term is used to describe any vehicle where the wheels are outside the main body of the car. This feature increases the grip and traction control of the car, making them ideal for competitive high speed racing in F1 championships.

  • Single seater race cars have wings at both the front and the rear of the vehicle, as well as a very low and virtually flat undertray that creates additional aerodynamic down-force. So while the wings on a plane keep you in the air, these wings keep the car on the ground- where you want to stay!

  • The pinnacle of single seater racing is of course Formula 1, with the F1 Driver's Championship being the oldest of the three world championships awarded by the FIA each year. Formula 1 is serious business, in the 2007/08 season the teams involved spent a total of over £2Billion on construction and development, so we really are offering you a bargain!
