You cannot miss the striking Victorian hotel commanding an enviable position, with wonderful views of the seafront and the dramatic cliffs of Beachy Head. You’ll take afternoon tea in the magnificent Great Hall on the stunning terrace or in the lavish lounge. You’ll dine on delicious sandwiches like cream cheese and cucumber, coronation chicken, and oak-smoked Salmon. Home-baked scones with jam and cream are included, of course, as well as a wickedly indulgent Eton Mess(during the summer) or Warm Fruit Compote (during the winter). A selection of delectable pastries completes the sumptuous feast, accompanied by your choice of tea, coffee, or herbal infusions. After dining to your heart’s content and enjoying the stunning five-star hotel, you’re perfectly placed to walk down to the pier with its Victorian boardwalk and amusements, or head in the other direction straight into the Sussex Downs for a delightful walk.

Nice day out

4 out of 5 15 August 2015
Location: East Sussex Age: 25-34 Bought For Daughter Occasion: Birthday
Staff were very friendly & accomodating. Enjoyed the food & tea
What would you improve for next time? Food was lovely but would have preferred more sandwiches & less sweet treats like the Eton mess. Didn't feel I really got my money's worth having 4 triangle sandwiches, 2 scones, a very small Eton mess & 2 cakes plus 2 pots of tea

Location: St Leonards on sea Age: 55-64 Bought For Son Occasion: Wedding
Hotel is 'grand' out of the Hollywood era! Staff polite and attentive whilst not being intrusive.
What would you improve for next time? More savoury selection - too heavy on the sweet selection.

Lovely gift from our daughter & son in law.

5 out of 5 16 June 2015
Location: Hastings, East Sussex Age: 45-54 Bought For Daughter Occasion: Christmas
This was a gift from our daughter, so a treat is always appreciated. The food was certainly better than the last afternoon tea we had at a similar establishment. We were there an hour, and cleared our plates. We enjoy our food, but that was enough to take place of our lunch and dinner. We are not tea drinkers, but this was replaced with a very nice hot chocolate, with little bowls of cream, marshmallows and chocolate shavings. Lovely warm scones, good range of sandwiches, pastry selection and mini Eton mess' The small little teapots managed to give us three cups each - delicious. Looking at groups of other guests, there was quite a large selection of pastries, it may have been nice to have been given a choice, although we were happy with everything we got. Lovely afternoon out.
What would you improve for next time? It would have been nice to be given a choice of room, my friend previously went for afternoon tea, and was in the room at the front. on a lovely sunny day it would be nice to have some windows, where the hall would be lovely with a fire burning in the winter. With the fruit tart, I am not sure the pastry was made there or pre-bought, but I would expect a crème patisserie base rather than piped cream.

Grand Hotel Afternoon tea

4 out of 5 25 May 2015
Location: Eastbourne Age: 55-64 Bought For Wife Occasion: Birthday
Ambience of sophistication. Relaxing and unrushed. Beautiful grand hall. Scones served warm, light and pleasing served with delicious preserves and cream. Sandwiches fresh and special. Pastries light, generous. Teas or coffee, many choices. A perfect treat for special occasion. Music in background non intrusive.
What would you improve for next time? Would be good to offer special promotions due to price a little high for sea side town tea, this is not London.

Location: West Sussex Age: 55-64 Bought For Son Occasion: Christmas
The setting was very nice ,door staff friendly . waiting staff very efficient. The food was very well presented ,but my wife and l both felt it lacked in flavour ,unlike the tea which was very good .We sat right in front of the grand piano that played continuously which was a bit annoying being so close but l sure was very relaxing for the rest of the room .

Christmas gift

4 out of 5 18 August 2014
Granny Pam
Location: North Wilts Age: 55-64 Bought For Daughter Occasion: Christmas
The Grand Hotel was very imposing nestled on the sea front. The entrance was up steps, my mother was in a wheelchair and I could not find the disabled access as there were no signs. I had to go into the lobby to ask, but once inside the decor was very ornate and we were directed to towards the large fireplace where we would be served our tea. A 3 tier cake stand arrived with freshly made sandwiches, scones which were still warm and a selection of fancy cakes. The relaxed atmosphere was very pleasant, my mother felt very pampered.
What would you improve for next time? A warmer welcome from reception staff would have been nice.
