Old Walls Vineyard - Devon I got a gift from a friend for my 50th Birthday. I was really looking forward to using it. While we were in Devon on Holiday we thought it might be a good idea to visit the location that was nearest us. "Old Walls Vineyard" It really surpassed our expectations and for what it cost our friends to buy for us superb value for money. Tea's Coffee juice to start the day then an incredibly interesting talk on the history of the vineyard and how the vines are cared for- I never realised how labour intensive it was. The tour was great and then we visited the winery and learned how the grapes were turned into wine. Again very informative and interesting. Wine tasting followed. Then a super lunch with wine and a cream tea to boot. A complementary bottle of wine worth £9.50 was given to us too. Great value and a good gift and location. Kind regards The Cowie's 22 August 2012
Vineyard visit, Wroxeter, near Shrewsbury We enjoyed our visit to the vineyard. The owner was obviously very knowledgable, and put over the subject in an interesting and amusing way. We learned lots! We were able to taste several varieties of wine, having first been told what to look for, and how to judge a wine. We then had a tasty lunch, with the oportunity to buy the wines from their shop. Then, along the road, there was the Wroxeter Roman town to visit, which was also very interesting, and completed a good day out. 18 July 2012
Great Experience at Chilford Hall Vineyard Our vineyard tour and tasting was a Xmas present. We booked a Thursday morning tour with Chilford which started at 10.00am. We were greeted with complimentary tea/coffee and then went on a tour of the vineyard. We were very impressed with the lady who took us on the tour. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and an excellent communicator. We were only part of a group of 6 which enabled us to talk easily to her throughout. ( With a party of 45 you might get a different experience.) The weather was good which also enhanced the trip as it's a reasonable walk to the vineyards from the bistro. Our tour concluded with an interesting visit to where the wine is made and bottled. Back to the Bistro and the tour guide explained tasting techniques where we tried 6 wines. We have been to vineyards abroad and tasting has been a sales process rather than an educational one. As far as we were concerned English wines had a poor reputation so we were very pleasantly surprised with the quality and taste of the products at Chilford. We tried 3 white still wines, one red, a sparkling white and a sparkling rose. The wines were not cheap at around £8 for the still wines and £17 for the sparkling but everyone on our tour rated the sparkling wines very highly! The white still wines generated more varied comments but everyone liked at least one. The tasting was followed by an excellent ploughmans lunch and eton mess sweet, and a complimentary bottle of one of the white wines. The grounds of the hall are also very pleasant for a post lunch walk. We were very grateful for the gift! 03 June 2012
Interesting and enjoyable visit Just returned from a tour off Chilford Hall Vineyard. I gave my husband the gift as a Chrismtas present. We had a lovely time, the weather was hot and sunny, and we found the whole event very interesting, although there must have been about 40 of us you did not feel that it was too many people, just right. On arrival we were served complimentary tea or coffee then our our guide took us on a half mile walk to the vineyards. Michelle (the guide) was very knowledgeable on the growing and varieties of grapes and the processes involved in making British wine. The tour ended back where we started for a wine tasting session, we had a variety of 6 wines to taste, three white, one red, a sparkling white and sparkling rose. The sparkling rose was my favourite. Lunch followed which was lasagne and eaton mess, all very tasty. I would definately recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys a glass of wine. A very friendly and enjoyable morning. If we were to visit again we would leave our visit until September when the grapes are being picked an the wine being produced. 30 May 2012
