Falconry techniques have been refined over centuries and passed down from many falconers. This half day course gives you the opportunity to share in this knowledge and also to interact these magnificent birds of prey up close before learning how to fly them to the fist. These birds are not trained to do tricks they simply mimic what comes naturally to them. All the birds on show will display their natural instincts to soar, quarter, pounce and mantle.
Your experience starts with an informative tour of the centre where you will see the variety of birds of prey close up and learn all about their different characteristics, speed capabilities and hunting habits. After that, you will have the chance to fly some of them to the fist under the watchful eye of the trainer. Finally there will be plenty of photo opportunities to capture a truly unforgettable experience. All equipment will be provided for your experience, but it is advisable to bring a pair of wellington boots with you and wear suitable outdoor clothing for the time of year! You will be at the venue for approximately 2-3 hours in total.

  • Leicestershire (Midlands) - Sutton Cheney
  • North Yorkshire (North) - Ripon
  • North Yorkshire (North) - Skipton
  • West Midlands (Midlands) - Stourbridge
  • West Sussex (South East) - Chichester
Your voucher is valid for 10 months. The number of other participants on the day will vary depending on the venue. The minimum age for this experience may differ from venue to venue but will range between 10 and 16 years of age. The venues at Perthshire and Kent do not include a guided tour of their respective centres, but do provide access to said centres. Please note that the species of bird flown will be dependent on the time of year. Spectators are welcome at all venues, but the Cornwall venue allows a maximum of one spectator on this half day experience, and all spectators will have to pay £35 at the North Yorkshire location. At the Kent location, a maximum of one spectator is allowed and they must be aged 14 or over, they will have to pay £20 to attend. At the Derbyshire location children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult who will need to pay a £10 spectator fee. Please note dogs are not permitted on site at some locations.

I got given a 'buy a gift' voucher for my birthday and chose to do a half day bird of prey exp in compton (near chichester) as I thought it would be somthing a bit different to do. I had an excellent day, Sally was great fun and really passionate about the birds, which made it really interesting. The birds were beautiful and obviously really well looked after. So glad i picked to do this, would definatley recommend it to anyone!

We bought a 1/2 day experience for our daughter who is 11. We chose Hawkwise Falconry based at the Bosworth Battlefield Centre in Leicestershire and from start to finish the whole day was thoroughly enjoyable and engaging. Steve Wright the Falconer, his dogs and birds gave an exciting incite and full on, hands on involvement all through the 3 hours, which included my husband and I and other visitors. Our daughter had a brilliant time, some fantastic memories and has learnt a basic skill she says she will revisit in the future, with the owls being her favourite to get close up and work with. Excellent value for money and a unique experience.

My brother and I received gift vouchers and chose the Owl experience at Risley in Derbyshire. We had a three hour morning there with various birds of prey and had a fantastic time. We were able to handle the birds after a comprehensive talk which told us all about them. Bob Morley the Falconer was very knowledgable and contributed to a very enjoyable experience.

bird of prey experience was fantastic, despite it being freezing cold. The staff at Hagley were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I would definately recommend this to anyone, just simply for the smile on my boyfriend's face -he loved every minute.
