The Ecclesbourne Valley is situated in Derbyshire’s Gentle Valley, stretching from the northern outskirts of Derby to the delightful town of Wirksworth, gateway to the Peak District. You will spend the day with an experienced train driver, learning how to prepare the train to run and watching the train embark on the first journey of the day from the front car. You may enjoy lunch in the buffet car with up to three guests of your choice. To round off the day you will assist with putting the train away for the night.

You will spend the day on the day with an experienced train driver. After a safety briefing in the morning you will enjoy a morning of riding in the front car with the driver. You will then have a buffet lunch in one of the train cars with up to three of your own guests. In the afternoon you will continue driving in the front car alongside the driver. To finish off the day you will help pack away the train for the night.

Notes

On purchasing this experience you will be given a voucher valid for 10 months. Participants must be over 18 years of age and must be reasonably fit and in good health. Stout footwear is recommended. Participants may not consume any alcohol on the day of the experience. You may bring along up to three guests who may enjoy with you in the buffet car and can watch you drive the train. All dates are subject to availability.

My dad loves trains so we sent him on this day with a train driver experience. The Ecclesbourne Valley railway is lovely, very picturesque. Dad enjoyed being in the front car with the driver seeing where it all happens. Me and my brother got to have a lovely buffet lunch with him too. Think Dad was rather sorry to see the train being packed away at the end of the day!

My father-in-law is a bit of a closet trainspotter, he used to work on the railways so we thought he'd love the chance to sit up with the driver. I went along with my two children to keep him company (and have lunch!), the area is full of lovely scenery. He had a great day and picked up lots of new facts to impart to everyone!
