Wow! This was a fabulous experience. After putting on our protective gear and a short training instruction, we practiced driving around closely parked cones before setting off into the woods for many laps around a rough path. It is amazing how easy the Segway is to control once you get the hang of it and you can travel quite fast. I confess I am hooked on the experience and can’t wait to have another go.

This experience was given to me by a friend for my 50th birthday. I had seen a Segway before but never up close up so it was good to have the chance to ride one. The booking procedure was straightforward although I had not appreciated to start with that there were booking 'windows'. Once this was sorted it was just a matter of waiting for the date to come round. On the day we struck lucky with the weather which was fortunate and found the venue with relative ease but thought it could have been signposted a bit better. We did not know what we were looking for and as it turned out the venue was home to a go-kart track and other experiences such as quad bikes. We did eventually discover where we were supposed to be after asking a couple of people and were eager to start The safety advice and preparation were very adequate but a bit surprising as we were kitted out with knee pads wrist pads helmets and body armour It did seem a bit over precautious but we were made aware of the potential danger and consequences of accidents so then felt protected After a demonstration we were individually shown how to ride the machine safely and how to avoid accidents when getting on and off before having a short practice session to get used to the handling. Then we were ready. We were led along a trail through woods and a field where the track continued marked out with cones. The instructor led us around to begin with showing us places to avoid and how to deal with different types of terrain before the rally event started. We then started the rally cautiously but quietly confident of being able to overtake other participants as the race developed The rally lasted for some 10 laps or so of the circuit which may not sound a lot but was enough to grow in confidence and enjoy the thrill of riding one of these unique vehicles
Once the race had finished we assembled to safely dismount the vehicles and at this point the instructors were pleased to take our photos for us and talk about the ra

Arriving at the Segway Rally Experience in Daventry, we were greeted by the sight of an earlier class just finishing up. The course looked quite tame, but as novices, that was no bad thing! We were issued with a surprising amount of body armour, which made us feel rather macho, and then a girly hairnet to use under the helmets provided, which made us feel rather less macho! Soon forgot about what we looked like though, as the heavens opened, and most opted for the plastic ponchos provided to prevent getting soaked.
We started with basic instruction on these amazing personal transport machines, and then were let loose on a simple slalom course to get used to them. General thing was to learn to relax and controlling them became quite intuitive. Then we went on to the main track. Looked tame as I say, but on the side of a hill, it proved a suitable test, with the ability to get up some reasonable speed, and learn what these machines can really do.
By the end of our hour, everyone had beaming smiles, and all agreed it was great fun, and something very different from the norm. Would definitely recommend this experience.

The Segway Rally Race for Two was a brilliant adventure gift! I was a complete beginner to Segways and soon picked it up. I was in a group of 4 and 2 others joined us. We had some instructions and then a play on the Segways to get familiar with them, then we went off-road! We went across a bumpy car park into a track through a nearby wood - it was rough terrain with bumps, stumps and tree roots to navigate. We thought we were ridiculously padded up but it helped give me the confidence not to panic and just trust the machine completely! After our first go through the wood, I was itching to have a faster go, then we were sent back through the track at our own pace, and then had a chance to try getting them up to top speed before heading back! 'Driving' them was so intuitive - you barely felt that you were leaning one way or the other, it felt to me like I was driving it just by thinking! :) I loved the experience and would recommend it to any others, can't wait until they're legal on the roads and a more affordable price - I'd love to commute to work on one!

Five of us went to the Segway experience in Daventry. If you haven't tried this you have missed a real treat. It's fantastic. You won't believe how manoeuvrable (had to look that up) these machines are. You get used to it in about 3 minutes flat! After that it is like flying a couple of feet off the ground. And because it’s on a farm with bike and kart tracks you can get a great bacon sandwich afterwards. I would advise parking where the Segway is (to the left as you go in) rather than among the (friendly) bikers caravans though.
