Birthday city break
Date:27 March 2012
clara
Location: Bournemouth
Age: 25-34
Bought by: Myself
Occasion: Birthday
I've bought this experience for my husband's birthday and we've just arrived home from this 2-day city break.
The city was lovely and exciting, we really enjoyed walking around, taking in the historic sites....there are some old traditional shops as well worth the visit, highly recommend - Fudge kithcen (opposite the King's college), the fudge they are making there is sooooooo creamy, havenly temptation! We've also found a nice place where they sell home-made ice-creams. As we were very lucky with the weather (it was between 17-20 C over the weekend), we loved sitting on the terrace of The Mill, a local pub at the river Camb, where they serve exceptionally good food and you have the a nice view as well, where punting also takes place. Also, the Fitzwilliam Museum is a must-see, leave a few hours for that and remember - it's not open on Mondays.
The only downside of our break was - the hotel. Unfortunately it is not what we expected. The rooms are very old fashioned and in desperate need of a refurbishment. When we got there, we got a room thaqt was so small that we couldn't open the entrance door properly because of the position of the bed. We complained about it and after a long discussion we finally got a bigger room, with 2 separate beds - in that point we didn't want to complain again, so just moved the beds together.
All in all - Cambridge is well worth a weekend away, but be aware of this hotel and don't have high expectations. :)
