Two Night Break at Best Western Marks Tey Hotel
The weather was awful, it could not be worse, snowed for most of the time. Apart from the weather the whole stay was wonderful. One of the best hotels we have stayed in. The room was excellent and very clean with lovely furniture. The breakfast was first class, plentiful and filling. The resturant had a very wide range of menu and the food was presented and cooked perfect. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, they were all five star. We will definately stay again.

Room - shabby, dirty bathroom, loud music in corridors outside in mornings
Reception - excellent service from the young man at the desk
Dinner was disappointing. Was told on arrival that kitchen was extremely busy despite restaurant having less than a quarter of capacity. Was told there was a wait for food which was fine, except that as we were seated I asked if we could order drinks for whilst we were waiting, I was told not yet. Twenty minutes later after sitting with no drinks or even menus I was told we were allowed to order drinks. Waitress was poor, did not know what lager was available on tap and did not know what a shandy was, instead offering a lager top. Main meal was satisfactory but dessert was poor - chocolate assiette was mostly in-edible and what was supposed to be an Eton mess consisted of only strawberry ice cream and strawberry sauce with scoops of something that appeared to be somewhere between cream as ice cream. £50 for an evening of being made to wait and then to feel like a nuisance was not a good start to what was a weekend away for my partner's birthday. Two other tables were also not impressed and complained directly to the manager.
Breakfast on the first morning was good, lots of choice and good service. Breakfast on 2nd morning however was again disappointing. We arrived half an hour before closing so we expected some items to not be available, however to have the majority of the cold buffet empty was unacceptable. I have myself worked at a hotel, in the restaurant and at breakfast and know that the same service should be available to all guests at all times during the breakfast period. To top it off, the waitress made a mistake with our drinks order, however at this point we had had enough of being disappointed and jut wanted to leave.
The Buy-a-gift process itself was quick, easy and provlem free. i would recommend that to anyone. However, the hotel itself was poor and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
