We used our 2 night stay voucher at Makeney Hall Hotel, on arrival at 3.05 pm our room was not read we.waited in bar which took a member of staff 15 mins to serve us & then our room was ready. Small room in extension part of the hotel where a large tree outside the very small window meant we had to have light on no matter what time of day. Bathroom large but shower curtain smelt musty, bath surround was cracked & plumbing rather noisy...there was however plenty of hot water. The toiletries were not replenished in 3 days so we had to ask for more as we had booked an extra night due to wanting to explore more of the beautiful area this hotel is in. We were most disappointed on the second day when returning to the room that our bed had not been made, the quilt which has seen better days had just been pulled up over the pillows which also need replacing, actually the bed was most uncomfortable too :(
We only ate on the first night as the quality was not good for the price, there is a pub within walking distance which serves hearty fare at a much more reasonable price. The breakfast is ok if you get it in with price of the room, if not £14.95 is very expensive for what is offered!
Overall, this hotel is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful Peaks/Dales & is in lovely gardens, we enjoyed our short break but would probably stay at another hotel if we return.

A Pleasant stay in Derbyshire
Makeney Hall, a typical Victorian mansion, provides a central stay with lovely surrounding countryside views.
Signing from the main road is a bit poor as it is located off the main road and sharp right just over the bridge if arriving from Derby.
We arrived early afternoon around 2pm and were disappointed to have to wait for our room to be made up(45 mins) with only 46 rooms this seemed a bit out of the ordinary.
The room was quite spacious and all the usual facilities (no tissues), and appeared to be in the quitter side of the hotel and at night there is no outside noise(other than the occasional owl). Bed was comfy and the tele good with normal tea and coffee avail.
The hotel is a rambling old building and the breakfast room which was the conservatory was very open and bright. Breakfast was the only meal we had and this was more than adequate and served to order by excellent staff.
We had intended to have our evening meal at the Holly Bush across the road (trip advisor recommended pub), but the only serve meals Wed to Sun so we took off to the Hanging Gate inn on the other side of Belper, highly recommended.
All in all a good few days and another well chosen location by Buy a Gift team, well done.
