Nice, but not quite as described

Fair view

Afternoon tea is served in the bar area and not in the restaurant. We handed over our gift voucher and a little while later our pot of tea arrived. Our waitress advised that Chef was preparing our "Deluxe Afternoon Tea". We eagerly awaited our "sumptuous selection of cakes, scones, sandwiches" per the leaflet which accompanied our voucher.

About 20 minutes later, two slate dishes arrived. One had a selection of finger sandwiches ( ham and mustard, cucumber, smoked salmon) - very oddly there were three of each type of sandwich for two people , so a total of nine finger sandwiches. The other dish was perhaps the most disappointing. There was ONE plain scone, halved and each half was topped with cream and half a strawberry. Also there were three HALF pieces of pancake (meaning one and a half pancakes) - again odd as there were two of us. One small pot of jam and a dish of butter. There were 4 tiny pieces of what appeared to be homemade shortbread and, I guess to fill the plate, there were four biscuits from something like a Rover biscuit tin (this included a custard cream and a stale shortbread biscuit).

Yes, we had a lovely view and, as the hotel was quiet, we enjoyed our visit but I don't feel the food was worth the money spent.

The detail above states "You will taste irresistible homemade pastries, cakes and scones" - we didn't. I am still a bit confused over the provision of three of each type of sandwich, one scone, one and a half pancakes.

In hindsight, I should have said something when we were there but I didn't want to cause a scene but I will be writing to the hotel management.

I would recommend the gift in general but this venue didn't provide what was described nor what was expected.
