Not quite what it seems.

Disappointed, no Gardens to look round. What there was, overgrown. Took us 25 mins to look around the castle. Cream tea, one scone each, although plenty of jam & cream.
Don't bother.

A really lovely place in a beautiful setting. The castle tour was very interesting and informative. All the staff we met were very courteous and informative. Weddings are held here too I would certainly recommend this to others.

Value for money. The guide obviously enjoys his work & very knowledgable . Very friendly welcome & a great cream - tea . On the negative side it’s a very steep blind corner onto the main road . Very dangerous in my view .

Excellent experience

My wife and I were given the buy a gift experience at Bickleigh Castle by our son and daughter for our anniversary. The experience was excellent, we enjoyed walking around the garden areas and playing Croquet in the castle grounds. The tea and scones with cream and jam sat in the courtyard was really good. The best part for us was the guided tour of the of castle, really historic, interesting and well explained. We would recommend it to any age group a really great day.

Fascinating Castle, but a bit disorganised
27 July 2022
The history of the Castle is fascinating, and the chapel is quite unique and charming. On arrival both hosts were involved with leaving guests and wedding customers so we were stood wondering where to go. Eventually we approached Sarah who took our details. We had already opted for the self-guided tour, which was just as well because everyone seemed very busy sorting out after a wedding on the previous day and talking to a prospective wedding family. John helpfully directed us to the starting point and route, and we very much enjoyed the tour, except that when we got to the Tudor Bedroom at about 12.30pm, it was in disarray with an unmade bed and we had to step over used linen on the floor! (clearly it is the Bridal Suite!) Not nice to see when you are on a tour. There were staff busily making up bedrooms in other buildings nearby that were not open to the public, but nobody had made sure this room was presentable before midday for those of us on the Castle Tour. When we finished the tour we went to the courtyard to have our cream tea. There were no signs and although there were staff around no-one could help us, except to keep telling us "We had a big wedding here yesterday." We found a door with 'Tea Room' above it and were about to enter when two ladies from nearby called out to us not to go in..... the floor had just been polished, but there was no cone or warning sign to stop anyone entering! Eventually someone called Peggy out of the kitchen and she showed us where we could sit and she made us our tea. She was very sweet and apologetic and said she doesn't usually do that job but had been called in to help. All in all, we felt it was a bit of a shambles. No-one seems to have a grip of properly organising things and it could all be so much better. We saw plenty of her tour visitors looking lost! We appreciate that the weddings are the big revenue stream, but we were paying customers too and were were left feeling unimportant and second best!
