Very pleasant afternoon
17 September 2019
A pleasant afternoon travelling on the vintage bus and the steam train. Well-organised and well led by the knowledgeable and polite tour guide. The cream tea was most welcome and very enjoyable. Very little walking involved and transport arrangements were clearly explained. It was a shame the cheese shop was closed. That would be my only criticism; perhaps an arrangement could be made with the shop in the future so that those on the trip would have the chance to visit and buy some cheese! Otherwise a thoroughly pleasant and enjoyable day out!

Shambles
13 August 2019
The steam train, bus and tea where all good, but you could have done it all without Chigwell tours who were a shambles. The guide didn’t have a clue what was going on! They tried to charge us a surcharge on a gift already bought, they should have taken any additional costs, not my fault they had to change their tea supplier. We were given £10 back and told we had to have our tea in 20 minutes as we had not paid the surcharge to go to the new tea room when in fact we should have stayed in Ongar. The guide told us we had to go on the mini bus anyway!! The map of and listed sights in Ongar were laughable. They just wanted you to kill time whilst they took the first half of the group to their tea. There weren’t enough seats on the mini bus and some people were left behind, probably because we were told to get on it when we shouldn’t have. We ended up going for tea with everyone else and paying separately with our returned £10. There were no reserved seats on the train as it was an event day and packed. The guard told us they specifically told Chigwell tours not to arrange any tours on event days for this reason. It reminded me of Fawlty tours so we did have a laugh in the end!!

Chuffing great
22 July 2019
From the time we were met at Epping station by a delightful lady named Amanda, to the very end when we were delivered back to Epping station was marvellous. The ride on a vintage bus from Epping, complete with a bus conductor brought back old memories, and the train ride from North Weald to Ongar on the Steam Train was a delight. I can only praise the scrumptious Cream Tea at Blackmore. The setting was great and the tea room is somewhere I would visit again. There could have been a little more time to explore places but there was a lot packed in for the time, including a visit to the oldest Saxon church which had an air of peace in this quaint building. On the whole, the day was extremely pleasant and Amanda our guide made sure everyone was okay and gave very informative talks along the way.

Very disappointed
30 June 2019
After arriving at Epping station so many there was difficult to find guide as was walking around , had to ask around after finding him told us bus was at 25 past12 it was late coming so was full with standing guide told us to get off at north wield for train as bus was late and full to brim , we had a minute to rush us all on train as leaving , as we were late no seats together after walking through carriages. He came along and gave us our tickets as been to late to give them out ,once arriving at Ongar we were to find Gide again, what with the amount of people on station it took awhile to find him in which time he had put people into groups, our group were given leaflets and told to find our way around Ongar and he would meet us at 2 o\clock at a car park so as only had half hour we had a quick look round as not much to see? When he met our group he told us he had no transport for us to take us around the places on itinerary and no cream tea so he gave us £10 between us and told us to get train and bus back and with that he abandoned us. No at all what we expected.

Disappointing
26 June 2019
To start with the Vintage Bus was late. Had to wait in the heat. Train was good but overcrowded. People were allowed to buy tickets on the day for the bus and train so this led to overcrowding. No tour of Ongar or church included and no tour of Ongar station. Tour guide just handed out train tickets and arranged taxi replacement. Not a lot of interaction with us. We did go on a vintage bus but we had 1 minute to get on the train at North Weald so couldn’t enjoy the 40s stalls etc there. We enjoyed the cream tea but felt rushed because we had no tour guide and were worried about our taxi turning up. This was a Pearl Wedding Anniversary gift to each other and we felt as though the experience let us down. Apparently a mini bus was held up on a motorway so that’s why we didn’t get to see the shops etc in Ongar. I feel we didn’t get the full experience promised.

Birthday present
11 June 2019
My friend and I were met at Epping Station by a vintage London RT bus and taken to N Weald, where we joined a steam hauled train to Ongar for a cream tea and a visit to the ancient wooden church at Greensted, before returning on the bus to Epping. We both found it a very pleasant and interesting day. My only criticism is that the driver of the vintage bus, when changing gear on the pre-selector, did not get the engine revs to the right level when he released the gear pedal, which caused a slight jerk.

Disappointing!
10 June 2019
The booking process was a nightmare,Chigwell Tours very unorganised, three days before our trip, rang to ask if we were still going and if it was 1,2,3 or 4 people even though it was booked in January and we had all the paperwork. We felt it was overpriced, could do Epping Railway on your own for much cheaper, too much time wasted when you could have been on the station looking around.Guide in Ongar was good but very rushed, would have liked time to look around, cream tea was okay, should have included a sandwich for the price. We will visit the railway again but on our own.

Lovely day out

The trip was very well organised. The cream tea was excellent. Disappointed that the steam trains were not working on the day, but the train experience was still great.

Lovely day out
20 May 2019
I bought this for my mum for Christmas. It was a really enjoyable day out - we would recommend it. We arrived early as wasn’t sure about parking in the area. This was no problem at all. The station had an NCP car park which was priced reasonably and was easy to make payments. Although we were 30 minutes early Alan the first guide was already there with his golf umbrella as expected. Lovely man. We got on an early vintage bus giving us more time at station before boarding the train. A specific coach was reserved for Chigwell tours which was quite a nice touch. You ate given an authentic ticket as a souvenir of the experience. Once we arrived in Ongar we were met by the lovely Alison who provided a really nice and knowledgeable walking tour around Ongar. Such a nice lady - clearly loves volunteering for this occasion. We boarded a mini bus which took us to the eldest wooden structure in the world and then on to Blackmore for a pleasent cream tea. We had reserved tables and had our tea and scones sighing 5 minutes. The staff were lovely and the scones were very yummy! Steaming as you cut not then as they were clearly freshly baked! Finally we arrived back in perfect timing to catch the steam train back to board the vintage bus back to Epping station! A wonderful day to have spent with my mum (who loved it even more than I did!) Thank you!
