Edible Ornamentals Chilli Farm Experience
11 October 2013
Our experience at Edible Ornamentals Chilli farm was fantastic.
Upon arrival, the staff were warm, friendly and very sociable, offering us complimentary drinks after our 90 minute drive which was very welcome.
The tour started with an excellent lesson in the best way to grow chillis, what time of year to start, how to plant the seeds and care for them until they are strong enough to be moved into bigger pots.
We were then given bags and were allowed to pick chillis all the way along the tour, (as shown in the photo which included serranos, habaneros and the blistering Super F1 chilli!) where our tour guide, who was incredibly passionate about chillis and the farm in general, explained in great detail all about the many different types they grew on the farm, how they made their own sauces from the crops and how they built and maintained their polytunnels in which the crops grew. That information was a unique science in itself!!
After we picked various types of chillis to take home, the tour ended with a tasting session in the cafe. We got to sample the many different sauces that were made by the farm which were delicious and often very very hot! We also got to taste some of the chillis we'd picked along the tour, which were fresh and tasty up to mind blowingly hot! Running noses and streaming eyes were applenty!
Once the tour had finished, we stayed to enjoy one of the cafe's signature dishes, chilli burgers with home made chips. Obviously with plenty of the chilli sauces on them! The food was lovely, fresh and tasty and very good value for money.
Obviously it was too good an opportunity to miss not buying a number of the homemade sauces too which we have been enjoying regularly since.
A great experience, extremely good value for money, highly informative and lots of fun too. A great experience, thoroughly recommended to all chilli lovers!
