Overview

Based on an authentic American school bus, the Devon Rum School offers a unique experience, guided by an expert distiller. Devon Distillery have launched this epic rum-making session to teach you all about the creation of the much-loved rum. On arrival, you’ll both be treated to a delicious rum punch cocktail each, as the lead distiller talks about the history of rum and the different ways it is made. Along with tasters and another delightful drink, you’ll enjoy building a flavour profile for your very own rum that you'll make together, choosing from different spices and beautiful botanicals. As the rum distils, you’ll even get to design the label for your 35cl bottle. After becoming the head distiller and refining your rum creation, put your stamp on the label and seal the bottle. Embark on the significant journey of rum, from its Barbadian roots to the modern rum cocktail, with this inspiring two-hour experience for two.

What's included?

What do I need to know?

  • Available to book Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, year round
  • The rum school operates Thursday-Saturday from 3.30pm-5.30pm and Sunday 12.30pm-2.30pm
  • This experience lasts approximately two hours
  • Minimum age: 18 years (please bring ID)
  • Please arrive five minutes prior to your experience. If you are more than 15 minutes late, the supplier may not be able to accommodate you
  • You will have the option to purchase some oak chips if you would like to mature the bottle
  • All dates are subject to availability

I thought this was a perfect gift and extremely good value! The host Hebe was very knowledgeable and made it a fun experience. I would definately reccommend it as a special gift to all ages above 18!.

This was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The 2 ladies, in particular "little" Kate looked after us so well and shared their knowledge of the entire process with us. We took the upgrade option on the day and for an additional £50 we made a 70cl bottle each as due to it not being fully booked there were stills available. The cocktail at the start was super tasty and we were given samples of various other rums as well as raw sugarcane so that we could decide what we wanted our final product to look and taste like. We chose from a variety of botanical and again Kate helped us with all the right measurements, gave us tips depending on what flavours we liked and we even got to design our own label whilst the still works its magic, which was lots of fun. We already sampled the final product and it really does taste like a premium spirit and you get hints of all the botanical you have added in the process! We'll definitely be back for the gin school :-)
