About the experience

After being restored to its former glory, the Painted Hall displays one of the most magnificent baroque interiors in Europe. With entry for two, marvel at the masterpiece illustrating Britain’s prosperity and naval power, as Sir James Thornhill’s creations conjure up a recollection of 18th-century Britain. After treating your inner culturalist, satisfy the taste buds with a traditional afternoon tea, which can be enjoyed in the warmth of the Painted Hall Cafe. Take the visit at your leisure, as you make your way through three connecting spaces; each as striking as the last. The Vestibule, the Lower Hall and the Upper Hall highlight themes of power, peace and prosperity through the grand-scale of decorative artworks. With an explorer map to guide and inform, discover all there is to know about the showpiece that took a mighty 19 years to paint.
