Spa day with a difference
04 March 2019
I had a lovely day at Ickworth. If you know what to expect you will have a fab day. I would say its more or an active spa day. I didnt feel comfortable sitting around the hotel in a robe as most guests are fully dressed. I had a lovely morning run in the park then a nice swim in the pool (which has been updated since my last visit many years ago). Again i wouldnt have felt comfortable sitting by the pool in a robe. (There was a baby swim lesson using half the pool so logs of nursery rhyme singing). Lunch was beautiful, very healthy options, top service and the restaurant is very pretty. Treatments were fantastic. I had a facial amd massage. Both were very good and the ladies in the spa were lovely (as was every member of staff i spoke with during the day). I was offered to borrow a bicycle, which i planned to do at the end of the day but changed my mind as it was raining and i was a bit too relaxed after my treatments. If you fancy a healthy and active spa day mixed with top quality rreatments and lunch with wonderful service this is perfect. (If you would like to relax in saunas and steam rooms i would reccommemd a different location). I had a great time.

Tad disjointed

The buildings are simply stunning. We enjoyed a couple of walks round the grounds. The treatment room therapists were exceptional. The treatments were tailored to meet our needs and they really listened. Couldn't fault it. The lunch was from a very select menu that consisted of ciabattas. Bit disappointing. We also paid £8 for two coffees with lunch which were hugely over priced. The lunch staff were attentive. The reception staff were obviously young and inexperienced. They let the other staff down. My only quarm with this venue is that there is no relaxation room, sauna or steam room. The swimming pool is in an outbuilding located next to the hotel which you have to walk outside to get to. This meant getting changed from robes to clothes multiple times throughout the day which spoilt the relaxation.

High in quality though few facilities

Had reservations when booking as the staff seemed unfamiliar with Buyagift and I had to explain the package to them. There was only a pool with no sauna, steam room or hot tub. BUT The lunch was delicious (I had steak), I had a lovely warm pool (30 degrees) all to myself, and the massage and facial were divine! I only spent the afternoon there as there's not much to do on your own apart from swim and read a good book. The spa therapist (Vilma# seemed confused about the package and asked me to choose between the facial and the massage even though both were established when at the time of booking and she should have had the appointment details. However, she did a marvellous job and I highly recommend her services #though she might want to work on her English - I couldn't understand much of what she was saying)

worst spa ever !

Complete waste of money. I went to Ickworth with 2 friends as a birthday treat and we were really looking forward to a relaxing day. On arrival we were directed to the dark and gloomy basement where eventually we found the treatment rooms. The small dark reception area was deserted and having hung around for a while we decided to try to find the spa area and swimming pool. I very helpful young man told us there was no actual spa as such just the treatment rooms we had just seen and across the car park we would find a swimming pool. The only place to get changed was in the pool area which had 2 communal changing rooms and a few lockers which had no keys to lock them. The pool was a good size and but with only 1 concrete lounger and a few bean bags not the relaxing pool area we expected. The treatment rooms were grubby and shabby. Two of the treatments we had were not worth the money. The lunch was ok and the waiting staff really nice . All in all at best this package should be sold as a light lunch with a treatment before or after . I did recommend that the therapist I had , should visit Ragdale Hall to see how a real spa is run and possible pick up a few tips!
