Not that great
20 January 2020
Hotel was in the middle of nowhere but had no character, the manor house looked nice but it is essentially a conference centre not a romantic getaway as planned. Nothing nearby. Hotel staff were friendly.

Lovely gift . Wrong choice of hotel
30 September 2019
The hotel attached is not in keeping with the manor at all, which they dont show you pictures off. The room its self was 2 single beds pushed up together causing you to fall down the middle of the bed. The pillows where rock solid along with the bed. Not a comfortable stay. Didn't bother eating at the hotel -£20 for 2 vodkas and a coke and a tacky switch on candle plonked on our table whilst we had our drink. Got to say it was a hilarious experience as it was not what we had our Hope's up to be at all. On the plus side the grounds are beautiful.

Not quite as hoped for

The new extension doesn’t blend well with the original building. The old wing has been refurbished but our room was quite tatty with chipped wallpaper, lampshade and the bathroom flooring needed repairing.

Weekend Away
08 August 2017
Unfortunately it took us 4 calls to try and get just one night away booked and then we still had the confusion when we arrived that we didn't have breakfast in our offer, when it stated we did. Anyway, we got there in the end! Very impressive building and lovely surroundings, but the interior is becoming slightly outdated/unloved. Very small room, but it was fine for our needs.

Nice break
18 April 2016
We stayed in the Archer rooms which were nice and modern. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, room was comfortable and both dinner and breakfast in the Brassey restaurant were very tasty. The grounds were also stunning. Only downside, we were on a corridor with a hen party who were pretty noisy throughout the night, even running up and down the corridors at 4am, although not really the hotels fault, the doors let in an awful lot of noise and could do with being sound-proofed.

Great location
12 November 2015
Fabulous location, the house and grounds are stunning The only negative was that the room they gave us was a small room which had one frosted glass window, and when you managed to open it, the view was of other buildings/ car park, not the beautiful grounds which we had expected, therefore feeling a little enclosed

Grand and compact all in one place
21 September 2015
Not first choice as despite attempting to book well in advance actual available dates at many venues often very limited (I assume linked to specific type of room covered by gift?). Would also warn others against high rate phone lines used by some venues as we ran up unnecessary high bill through call centre based booking at one venue which ultimately ended with me ending call as they were clearly deliberately trying to extend my time on the phone! Ended up with third choice – which was Heythrop Park Hotel. Very impressive site and quite easy to get to, well placed for visits to the Cotswolds or for shopping in Oxford. Golfing and spa etc. on site if you are so inclined, impressive grounds and views. Phone booking was unnecessarily drawn out as their system has different sections for “normal” bookings and voucher based ones (not all of their staff seem aware of this or have access to the relevant computer section!). They did phone back as promised once they worked that out but booking confirmation still had to be chased up some time later. Main hotel is very impressive. Now owned by De Vere group the entrance area in particular is magnificent. Site is actually two venues that have been linked and the new owners seem to be re-furbishing as they go. Very large site with lots of vast empty corridors similar to other large venue type (golf/spa etc.) hotels we have stayed in e.g. Celtic Manor in Wales. Booking in was problematic, reception staff were one trainee and one person with limited English – lot of confusion between them. Staff overall were very helpful and polite throughout our stay – though not all seemed fully aware of the various “technical” aspects of their role e.g. charging items to rooms etc. I would certainly say they were welcoming and enthusiastic. Evening meal menu was a bit limited so we went off site to eat – would recommend The Harrow pub / restaurant in nearby Enstone (bottom of Heythrop's drive). Breakfast at the hotel was very good and very well managed with lots of very efficient and busy staff – too many hotels don’t have enough staff on at breakfast so we thought this was a definite plus point. Room covered by offer is what the hotel describe as “standard”. If I was being generous I would describe it as “compact”. I was reminded of the type of space saving measures used on ships or submarines etc. to get largest number of facilities in smallest space possible. If staying again we would upgrade. Pleasant décor and comfortable bed, overall room had usual facilities you would expect, but was very small. Ok for one night but moving around the room when another person was there quickly gets very irritating as there was no space, so if you have limited patience or are not yourself medium or small I would suggest an upgrade. Wardrobe included refreshments shelf inside the casing below the clothes rack, so if you hung clothes on hangers they would have to be very short ones or they would be dangling amongst the tea, coffee, kettle etc. Shower / wet room but no bath so if you were expecting a relaxing soak after your journey you would be disappointed. A number of irritations with the room. Main light didn’t work (presume needed new bulb), a chipped glass in refreshments section, door would not lock from inside (lock plate was not fitted squarely) though intruder would still need card access to release door handle from outside. Flashing light just inside door when other room lights off – we had a discussion over whether this was a safety feature to help with access to the door in an emergency or just a faulty light! I suspect the latter – otherwise incredibly irritating as very bright flash (similar to camera flash) every minute or so – bright enough to see through your eyelids (so made it difficult to sleep). When noticed we did not report it as would have required room change or maintenance visit very late at night. On balance lots of minor issues that suggest the hotel needs better attention to detail but the issues were not enough to spoil a good break.
