Ok but too quiet
01 August 2014
The guest house was quite nice, although one slice of toast between two was a bit stingy at breakfast.. Didn't appreciate the owner's dog sniffing around my breakfast table either. The village is, as advertised, quiet.. Two pubs, only one serving food.. Don't come here for the variety of the local nightlife!!

Golden wedding gift
10 May 2013
We spent 2 nights here over the Spring Bank Holiday. We had a friendly welcome from Lynne. Our room and on-suite were spotlessly clean and comfortable with TV and hot drink making facilities. The excellent breakfast , either full English or continental was served in the bright and cheery breakfast room- Ozzy the black labrador collected the table napkins after you had finished. There was also a comfortable lounge. We were in the downstairs bedroom and the only downside being a building outside the window restricted the light. However this in no way spoilt our stay.

What a great weekend!
15 October 2012
This escape was bought for us as a relaxing, child-free night away and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We couldn't have asked for a friendlier place to stay. Tea and cake on arrival, a clean and comfortable room and a delicious, locally sourced English breakfast. We opted to pay for dinner as well. This was a "Somerset tasting menu", a great selection of local flavours. Guests and proprietors all ate together, and there was a quiz to complete too, so lot of opportunity to meet new people and chat. The resident labrador, Ozzy, was friendly and enjoyed collecting our napkins! We would thoroughly recommend The Old Cider House.

Birthday Treat
30 September 2012
On arrival, we were shown to our room by Lynne. She was most helpful and told us about walks in the local area, where we could eat etc. Having stayed in other dog friendly hotels we found our room to be a little cramped once our dog was in it, however the room was clean although in need of a little TLC, everything we could need was provided - magazines, TV, tea/coffee making facilities, hot water and clothes hangers! We ate at The Rose and Crown pub which was quiet for a Friday night but food excellent and extremely good value. Nether Stowey is a lovely little spot to stay and ideal for the walks we had planned for the next day. Breakfast was served at 9am for all guests - no option to eat at other times - and was fantastic! Plenty for even the largest appetite. Entertainment provided by the resident lab Ozzy who kindly collects your serviettes when you have finished! Our only criticism would be that guests dogs are not allowed in the dining room, for health & safety reasons so it seemed a little odd that Ozzy was. Disappointed in the lack of information regarding the micro brewery, which is promoted on the website but mentioned only in passing during our stay. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Not as described
05 June 2011
Lovely village with 3 excellent pubs, the accomodation was average although the bed was comfortable. The continental breakfast which we ordered was not good - half a piece of toast, half a bread roll and a small muffin!! And as for the micro brewery.. not a mention of it.. dissapointing as the buy a gift voucher describes a tour of brewery and a sample of the brew in production.. When we asked in one of the local pubs if they stocked the brew they said the micro brewery was in fact a "broom cupboard" and they didn't stock any of the guest house ales!

My partner and I saw The Old Cider House on Buyagift anmd thought it would be the prefect place to get away for the weekend. The surrounding hills were superb for walking and we very much enjoyed tasting some of produce of the local microbrewery.
