The hotel was quite nice although a bit dated.we ate dinner which was quite nice the breakfast was awful my parter had a bowl of cereal. I was looking forward to a fried breakfast i chose a fried egg 2 pieces of bacon half a tomato and one slice of toast. i ate a small piece of the egg which was so hard the bacon was dried out I just left the lot it had been sat in the warmer tray for to long . I did complai n to the waiter and at reception . If i had to pay £11 i would have been very annoyed .

Excellent staff and food, but a very shabby hotel.
14 February 2016
Couldn't fault the staff, who were particularly pleasant, attentive and helpful. Similarly, the dinner and breakfast were excellent. The problem is the building itself, which is clearly overdue for major refurbishment. The reception lobby, bar, restaurant and common areas are shabby, spartan and unappealing (no wonder they don't feature much on the website). This is not what we were expecting from a 4* hotel belonging to the Mercure group. The room was clean and acceptable, but you're best taking your own toilet paper as theirs is the thinnest and smallest I have ever come across (these things are important!). For the same deal, we could have stayed down the road at The Old Ship hotel. We popped our heads in out of curiousity and found the common areas to be far more attractive.

Excellent hotel break for two.
07 December 2012
My wife brought me this as a Christmas present last year. There was plenty of hotels to choose from across the country. We decided on the Mercure Brighton Seafront. The instructions on how to book our choice was clear and simple to follow. The booking process was easy and the girl was very friendly. The hotel itself was lovely the room was clean, warm and in a ideal location. (Just 10 mins from the city centre). The staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The guy on the reception gave us a map and circled the places of interest we we wanting to see. The hotel experience also included a two course dinner and breakfast. The food was beautiful and plenty of it. Jonas the waiter was excellent and extremely funny. Checking out was simple. The only additional cost was for parking the car(£15 for 24 hours) this was worth it as parking in the town centre is very expensive. Overall we had a fabulous time and will be going back. The experience was outstanding. Would highly recommend.

Could be Great
03 August 2012
This is a lovely hotel in walking distance of all the main attractions. The overall look of the hotel is very nice and the hotel has its own car park. Although this is £15 per night. You do however need to be careful of the room. Some of the rooms but have really great out looks. However the room we were given was increadibly small and also had only a view of some compressors on the roof, nothing else was visable from the window. We though this was probably because we were using a voucher but I cannot confirm this. There was also a wedding going on the same weekend, which was a shame as we were not advised of this at the time of booking. They took over the hotel including the bar and made it unbearable. we were looking for a nice quiet drink after the meal which was impossible. There was also loud music very late into the evening and although partial to some music sometimes, trying to sleep when ABBA are playing is not ideal. The food, well if you go for the all inclusive meal (which we had) it is awful. The restuarant is nice enough and the service is really good. The food however is horrid. I had fish and it looked like a value fish out of the freezer and the cheese cake was even worse. I would go back to this hotel, if there was no wedding on and if I was not eating there and also if I could have a better placed room. The hotel was very clean and modern. Just a shame we were treated like second class citizens

Great gift but not great hotel!
14 November 2011
Having been given the gift as a present we chose to go to Brighton where this hotel was the only option. It's in a great location for the beach and town centre but sadly everything about it was very average. Bearing in mind the package was called 'gourmet getaway' the food was way below standard. The breakfast took it a stage further and was disgusting and congealed. The drinks and coffee were extortionately expensive in the bar. The rooms was adequate. When we checked out we pointed all of this out to the receptionist but she didn't seem particularly interested and was merely doing her job by simply asking if everything had been ok!
