Ideally Situated although not Gourmet.

We really enjoyed our stay but I would not class the stay as a "Gourmet Break". Food was fine but not gourmet. We stayed for two nights, paying for the second night as we wanted to explore the nearby Mumbles and Gower coastline, for which the premises were ideally situated. 10-15 minute drive to the Mumbles and 40-50 minutes to the Gower. Room was comfortable if not a bit dated and the view out the back is not the best. Sky TV is a definite plus, especially as the World Cup cricket was on! We paid £130 for our extra night DBB but there seemed to be packages offered at the hotel that were cheaper (Thirsty Thursday package was £70 for DBB and we stayed on a Thursday and Friday night. Hotel was virtually empty with no guests in the bar in the evening. At dinner first night we were offered the DBB menu, took us while to work out what this stood for as everyone seemed to abbreviate any hotel phrase. We wanted to order from the main menu but we're told we could but it wasn't included in the DBB deal. Eventually we were told we could but only had an allowance of £18 each. Not a problem but not clear. I had chilli prawns and surf and turf. The main course being the same as the starter plus obviously the fillet steak, which was good and some mushrooms, good bowl of chips and the trademark bowl of peas. They seemed to come with everything! We also ordered a bottle of wine but they seemed to have a bit of trouble tracking it down. It was eventually delivered half way through the starter course, after being opened at the bar, not at the table and then plonked on the table with the phrase 'there you go'. No "would you like to taste" (to check if it was corked). Tiny wine glasses for red and white wines. Same glasses for both. Minor points I know but this was supposed to be Gourmet. Spa was OK but steam room not very hot and no shower in main pool area. Staff very friendly but the "Restaurant of the year 2006" sign behind the bar summed it up really. Nothing since!?
