Macdonald Hotel Signature Spa Day with 80 Minutes of Treatments and Afternoon Tea for Two

I used £150 worth of vouchers and paid an extra £148 to attend the Macdonald Elmers Court hotel for their signature spa day. I took my mum and we’d been looking forward to a really good experience given the cost of it. On arrival we were greeted nicely & shown to the spa. We were then told that an aquacise class was about to start so it might be a bit busy. The changing room was full & only had 1 working toilet. There were so many people in the pool for the exercise class that we couldn’t use it. There was no where to sit around the pool - no sun loungers as shown in the photos & only a few chairs which were all covered in towels. We’d been told about the relaxation room in the spa but we weren’t allowed in there with wet swimming costumes so we didn’t feel we could use the steam room as had no place to sit when we came out. So we had to go straight to the relaxation room & wait for the class to finish. We went back to the pool about 45 mins later - it is very basic. No separate jacuzzi or anything special to make it stand out. Our treatments were booked for midday so we showered & went for those. No issues with the treatments - they were very nice. Our afternoon tea was booked for 2pm & we went through to the restaurant. We were told we could sit wherever we wanted so chose a table by the window. The window ledge was covered in dead flies & wasps that no one had bothered to hoover up. After about 15 mins our drinks arrived & the waiter was complaining that we’d sat at a table set up for breakfast & started to move all the cutlery etc. We said we’d been told we could sit anywhere & he just said “it’s fine”. The food didn’t arrive until 2:30 - half an hour late! When we were eating the waiter came over & asked if we were booked in for 3pm - I said no it was 2pm. He then said it appeared someone else had been in before us & had our afternoon tea! Due to the lack of anywhere to sit in the spa we decided to shower & go home after we’d eaten. Very disappointing really.
