About the experience
Pull up to a grand stone gatehouse and take the keys to the Welsh Gatehouse for the night, yours alone, with a roaring wood burning stove, wooden beams and stone mullion windows waiting inside. Dating back to the reign of Edward I, this Grade II listed gatehouse at Mathern, near Chepstow, wears its history proudly. You'll cook in the modern kitchen, linger on the sun terrace as the light fades, and climb to a mezzanine bedroom tucked into the tower. South Wales and the Wye Valley are close at hand, with walking trails on the doorstep for an easy escape into the countryside.
