Afternoon Tea for Two at Charingworth Manor

A perfect day with glorious sunshine for sitting outside with a cold drink before heading inside for a splendid and tasty afternoon tea. Staff were most attentive too.

We really enjoyed the afternoon tea, very attentive staff.

First impressions of manor were very poor. Builders, vans and diggers everywhere. Tennis court overgrown and full of building material. We arrived early and hoped to walk around what looked like nice gardens but weather was poor. Toilets available were a mens urinal. Put in lounge area and then told that due to staff training we might have to stay there for our afternoon tea. We had booked for 2pm and wasn't expecting this or having to stay in a dark room with a view of diggers. This was resolved as meeting finished, the orangery was lovely and light with lovely views and food was excellent. The girls on reception, the young lady who saw us and the girl in the orangery were warm and friendly and tried their best.to resolve the situation. However we did see what I assume were 2 male managers twice during our visit and they made no effort to apologise or explain the building chaos. I'm sure it will be a beautiful hotel when building work is finished but we won't be going back based on the disappointment first impression. I don't think that the viewpoint of the customer arriving in the chaos has been fully appreciated. There was a suggestion that we may be offered a half price return by speaking tthe manager but this wasn't forthcoming. A website and reception message regarding the extensive building work are also recommended to warn customers.
