not as easy as you think

Sorry to say very disappointed - this was a gift at Christmas but I have been unable to book an afternoon tea at Inglewood Manor. Can never get a person to respond on the phone number just option to leave a message which is ignored. When I eventually spoke to someone I was told that "Afternoon" tea is only served from 12:30 to 3pm - so hardly "Tea Time" I couldn't book the Saturday as they had a Wedding on and if I booked the Sunday at 3pm I was also told that we have to be out by 4pm so they can set up for dinner - so not a relaxing afternoon. I have sent them an email to see which Saturdays are free so we can book but really wish we could change the voucher for somewhere else.

Not the best and not the worst

Arriving at Inglewood Manor we considered that this was the sort of venue that we might like to revisit for an evening dinner. However it didn't take too long for us to change our opinion. There was no welcome on arrival, and when we reported to reception we were told to walk down the corridor, turn left and we would be greeted by 'one of the girls'. After some delay, we were eventually 'greeted' and shown to our table where we were ignored for the next 20 minutes or so. In due course, cream tea was served - not the best and not the worst, and the 'Glass of Bubbles' which formed a large part of the promotional marketing was not forthcoming. After a pleasant hour enjoying the ambience and the view, we duly managed to leave the restaurant and the hotel, without receiving a thankyou or any other pleasantry comment from the hotel staff, which was exactly as expected. In summary, the cream tea was fair, the service was non-existent.

Disappointing

We've been here before and, frankly, we expected better. The service was poor and we didn't get the items as described on the menu - we got posset without the "compote", no "carrot cake", no "sponge cake with jam and cream" but instead were given dry lemon sponge and a very sickly, gooey fudge. The menu's been changed too, so the salmon and cucumber sandwich has been replaced by tuna mayonnaise. This is not my idea of a quintessential afternoon tea experience. When we tried to upgrade from Prosecco to Champagne we were told they didn't have any. On top of all this, we were seated in the Burton Suite, instead of the beautiful wood panelled dining room, because of a wedding fair, which we'd not been warned about. My aunt, for whom we'd arranged the afternoon tea on her 98th birthday, made the most of it, but I could see she was disappointed, as were we all. Being aware of her birthday, the chef did send out a special "Happy Birthday" plate, which was a nice touch and I must say that the scones themselves were very good, however, sadly, I don't think we'll be going again. What a shame!
