Signature Serenity Afternoon with 50 Minute Treatment and Lunch for Two at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa

I had hoped to make Shrigley Hall my go-to destination for massages, especially since it’s conveniently located close to home and I enjoy getting regular treatments. Unfortunately, my experience was far from relaxing. While the indoor pool felt outdated and somewhat dim, I do think the infinity pool and restaurant were pleasant enough to justify spending an afternoon there for a spa day. However, when the facilities are tired and the massage itself falls short, it’s hard to see how a £120 spa experience is worthwhile. The massage was the real disappointment. My therapist appeared frustrated when we arrived, complaining to her colleague that I was her third hot stone massage of the day, and I believe this showed in the quality of the treatment. Though I had specifically booked a hot stone massage, the stones were used sparingly, and the therapist sat down while massaging my legs. She focused mainly on my back and legs, completely neglecting my arms, neck, shoulders, face, and head, all of which are typically part of a full-body massage. What made matters worse was the feeling that my therapist was distracted. At one point, I noticed something on the table that I believe was her phone. Additionally, she seemed to be massaging with one hand intermittently, which made me feel as though she wasn’t fully engaged in the session. I did raise my concerns with the spa and asked if this level of service was acceptable, but after a week, I still haven’t heard back. This lack of response is especially disappointing, as it makes me feel that my concerns were not taken seriously — a pattern I’ve seen reflected in other reviews as well. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning. While my friends enjoyed their massages, I can’t recommend the spa based on my experience. That said, if you happen to get a skilled therapist, the overall spa day might still be worth it, particularly considering the nice infinity pool and restaurant.
