Afternoon Tea for Two at Marston Farm Hotel

Found the place easily. No one around on arrival. Wandered around and found the restaurant. Friendly girl took our order of tea and decaf coffee. However, the food was very disappointing. Sandwiches dry and odd fillings. Scones large but had obviously just been pinged in the microwave which made them claggy to eat. Other cakes were mediocre at best with the brownie being disgusting. We left most of the cakes and didn't want to bring them home. I wasn't expecting a high end product but the room and quality was poor in my opinion

Characterful setting. Disappointed with food. Sandwiches ok. No variety of cake - 3 different sponge cakes which looked very like shop bought ones. Scones nice and warmed but again looked shop bought.

I was given a voucher as a birthday gift, and chose to take my granddaughter for a little treat. The staff I spoke with were really helpful, as the code on the gift card didn’t correspond with their numbers….but your customer service department sorted it out for me efficiently. It was a ‘budget’ afternoon tea, and although the sandwiches were really fresh (and well filled) they were quite ordinary fillings. The selection of cakes was limited, and like other reviewers, I was unsure if they were shop-bought. Fresh, but three almost identical sponge cakes was a little boring….small pastry cases with cream/jam/strawberry for example, would have added some variety to the tea. The scone was fresh, but the jam/cream were in previously used little pots, which I didn’t feel was very professional. The room lacked atmosphere but looked freshly painted, although the rest of the hotel was really quite jaded, and would benefit from a coat of paint and some interesting ‘bits and bobs’ to make it a more welcoming venue. The two staff I spoke with /saw, were big assets to the hotel.
