Spa Day with 55 Minute Treatment and Afternoon Tea for One at Macdonald Inchyra Hotel – Weekend

My previous experience of spa days has been at Mar Hall, Gleddoch and Gleneagles, so I was interested to know how this would compare. The arrival didn't bode well as there was someone at the desk already complaining about aspects of their experience. The young women at the desk were unsmiling and unenthusiastic in their welcome and I was asked to wait until they found me a robe and slippers. The robe was yellowed, tatty and undersized, which also wasn't the best welcome. The changing rooms were nice, but the floor was swimming in water from the open showers. I didn't see anyone supervising or cleaning in my time in and around poolside. The cushions on many of the loungers were cracked and had holes in them, which wasn't very appealing. The poolside wasn't really a place to relax, there were hotel guests in with kids screaming, banging on the steam room door and messing about with the ice fountain. The waiting area for treatments also wasn't a relaxing space, a small area which was excessively brightly lit with the loud music from reception audible. The treatment and afternoon tea redeemed the experience, the treatment was lovely and the therapist extremely good, the relaxation area was really nice and the restaurant was a lovely space and the food was delicious. It's a shame, some more attention to detail, attentiveness of staff, cleaning and maintenance and some more thought given to the environment and booking policies around use of the leisure facilities could make this a really great experience.
