Nice hotel good location, close to Hemel & St Albans. (But beware on leaving premises, located on a road near a bend where people drive fast).
Rooms were ok, I upgraded to middle suite. A fan was provided to deal with the hot summer, but aircon is seriously needed. (I read somewhere that it’s a listed building which limits placing aircon within, but there has to be a work around, even if the aircon fridges are placed on a separate structure slightly away from building).
Because of the heat we wanted windows opened, but being on the ground floor, where there’s no immediate security, we couldn’t leave open through the night.
We enjoyed our stay booked in on 4-8-18 for two nights via a voucher.
Our biggest concern was that upon arrival the night receptionist came across very unpleasant. It was not welcoming at all. If I hadn’t pre-booked I would have preferred to go somewhere else.
The young lady refused to smile & didn’t even say hi.
As it transpired I had made an error with my booking, & came in a day late, she was gracious enough to shift it back for us on account of the voucher, but felt told off & wondered if her demeanour was because of the error?
But the next evening she seemed much the same. (No ill will towards this precious lady, but I’m sure if it is an ongoing thing, it can hurt the way the hotel is initially perceived).
Other than that the staff were great, a young lady called Nina was particularly very helpful and pleasant.
The hotel looks more attractive outside than in. The corridors that we went down the decor looked a bit like a prison. Maybe needs brightening up a bit. But don’t let that pit you off from an overall good experience.
