Afternoon Tea with Prosecco for Two at Hotel Collingwood

We liked the sound of the Gold Room in Hotel Collingwood, and while we waited to be seated we watched as a baby shower group were about to leave from there. It is a lovely environment for and afternoon tea. We were greeted by a lady who quickly moved us out of the Gold Room and into the hotel bar, where a small table has been set for us next to a group of people having a drink while waiting for a dancing event. I mentioned to the young man who attended to us that we expected after booking in the Gold Room to be sitting in there and not in the bar, and he said they don't usually serve afternoon teas in the Gold Room. Perhaps the standard email confirmation we received headed Gold Room needs rethinking? There were numerous events listed by the Gold Room for that day, and there was no-one else having an afternoon tea - I wonder why? The food was just about adequate, with some of the bread not specially fresh, the fillings unexciting for vegetarians (cheese and pickle? diced peppers and hummus?), 2 very small scones and small slices of tray bake cakes, some fresher than others. It wasn't our first choice of hotel for our gift of an afternoon tea, because the one we originally wanted wasn't available for our chosen date. We wish we'd chosen an alternative date and gone with our first choice. We feel we were something of an inconvenience to the staff who were busy preparing for other events that weekend.
