Macdonald Hotel Morning Retreat Spa Day with 25 Minute Treatment and Lunch for One

This experience felt more uncomfortable than relaxing. The welcome at reception was fantastic, I was checked in, choose my lunch time and given my health questionnaire to complete. I was then given my robe and towel and taken through to a dull hallway and pointed in the direction of the changing rooms and spa treatment rooms. Briefly told about the lockers but said instructions in changing rooms. I asked if ok to use relaxing room all morning, was told yes then door closed behind me and I was left. I arrived shortly after 9 and my treatment was at 10 so I got changed and then went up to the spa area hoping to wait in the relaxation room however the door was locked. Only other option was to sit at pool area which I did but felt really out of place as was only one in a robe and felt like I shouldn’t be there. Glad I was only there a short time. I headed up to spa 15 mins before my treatment and door was now unlocked. Sat in waiting area but again feeling a bit out of place as was only one in a robe. therapist collected me at 10 and I received a back, neck and shoulder massage which was fantastic. Afterwards, I was shown to the relaxation room which I managed to enjoy. Got changed and had to check with reception where I was getting my spa lunch. This was over at the main part of the hotel. Waited to be seated was odd as had to hover at top of a staircase. Lunch was ok, not a huge selection and not the sort of health options I would have expected from a spa lunch but it was ok. Hotel and location look beautiful, however I would not come back to Houstoun House for a spa experience.
