Spa Day with Afternoon Tea and 50 Minute Treatment for Two at Shrewsbury Albrighton Hotel

Beautiful, very aesthetic hotel with a lovely atmosphere overall. The spa is located in a separate building from the main hotel and bar, which is worth noting. The spa staff were absolutely lovely and very welcoming. The facilities themselves were great – plenty of choice with different rooms including an ice room and aroma sauna, and the heated pool was a real highlight. The beds around the pool were very comfortable, although for a Wednesday afternoon we were lucky to get one. Our treatment was lovely, though it did feel shorter than the advertised 50 minutes. There were, however, a few issues that let the spa experience down. There were no slippers provided, so when we wanted to go to the bar we had to walk across in our boots and robes. The lockers also do not work unless you bring your own padlock, meaning we had to carry our handbags around all day as we didn’t feel comfortable leaving valuables unsecured. Most of the problems were with the main hotel. When we arrived at the bar (which is separate from the spa, though you can take drinks back with you), there were no staff present. On multiple occasions we had to walk to reception to ask for someone to serve us. The first staff member who did serve us made us feel like an inconvenience — there was no warm welcome, just a blunt “what do you want?” We ordered drinks and immediately changed our minds (before they were made), but were told we couldn’t change because we had already paid. Even switching from a glass to a bottle wasn’t allowed. The prices were also very high — £40 for a bottle of prosecco, £25 for two cocktails, and £5 for two packets of crisps. Afternoon tea was served in a room that is definitely due a makeover, but the food itself was lovely. When I mentioned our experience to a member of staff, we were given a complimentary glass of prosecco, which was appreciated.
