About the experience
For anyone who has a passion for the age of steam, this taster driving experience is the perfect gift. You’ll learn to drive a real 5/8th scale locomotive, with all the same controls as its bigger counterpart, with real steam on a real track. You’ll even get to drive it through historic Sherwood Forest, one of the country’s most famous sites. An expert instructor will guide you thoroughly through the controls and demonstrate how to drive the steam engine on the easier practice track, before letting you have a go yourself, all under his watchful supervision. The instruction is all one-on-one, so you will have his full attention. Once he feels you have mastered the skills needed, you will move over to the 1 mile long Sherwood Forest track, where you will take complete control as you drive the full length through the forest. Your instructor will remain with you for guidance throughout.
What do I need to know?

- Please note, this experience takes place in a cabin with space for two and as such is only available for one person at a time

A great little experience.
Very enjoyable. I was told how the train works and an explanation of all the controls to do this. I then had a taste of driving, which was really good. Clear explanation of how to operate - was very rewarding. Thanks to all the team there.

Great afternoon even in the rain
Bought this for my husband and although raining he had a great time Pete was knowledgeable and fun and my husband really enjoyed learning more about the train and loved the driving

Excellent experience
Welcomed to the railway with a smile and a complementary cup of tea, the experience was off to a good start.
Introduced Bob who ran the experience for a brief safety chat and then onto the train.
Totally put at ease by Bob's manner, I really enjoyed the thrill of being a Steam Engine Driver.
All aspects of driving the 15" train were covered with some being observed and some being done like adding the coal, operating the Throttle and tooting the whistle.
Obviously the solo driving bit was the best under Bob's 'hands-off' but necessary tuition!
