About the experience
Take the regulator of a real steam locomotive and feel the heat, hiss and rhythm of the age of steam, with one-to-one tuition all to yourself. You'll start on the easier practice track, where your instructor demonstrates every control on the 5/8th scale engine, so you'll know exactly what each lever does before you take charge. Then it's out onto the one-mile track through historic Sherwood Forest, driving the full length with expert guidance at your shoulder. Around 45 minutes at the controls gives you time to settle in and enjoy every moment.
What do I need to know?

- Minimum age: 18 years
- Available Monday-Friday, February-November
- Available in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire only
- Approximately one hour in total, including around 45 minutes of driving
- A reasonable level of health and fitness is required
- Please inform the supplier of any medical conditions or health concerns when booking
- Please dress appropriately for outdoor activity and wear suitable clothing and footwear
- Itineraries and vehicle models may vary; images are provided as a guide
- Some driving experience providers may ask participants to sign an indemnity or damage waiver form on the day of the experience. This means they may be asked to contribute towards the cost of any damage caused to the vehicle during their experience. Full details of the indemnity or damage waiver will be provided by the experience provider. We're unable to advise or comment on the content or suitability of the waiver. Most providers also offer an optional indemnity or damage waiver for an additional fee. This is separate from the public liability insurance held by all venues

Steam Train Driving Taster Experience
Me and my partner had a Great Few hours here.
All staff were friendly and polite. Bob (Driver) was very knowledgeable about the locomotive and gave out clear instruction and guidance of operating it. It was nice to chat to Bob about the railway and his accomplishment of building it with his Dad and Brother. I enjoyed the experience thoroughly and I would recommend this to anyone who wishes to venture into driving a steam train.

Interesting and Fun
