Lovely afternoon tea in beautiful surroundings. Great staff and free parking.

The food was plentiful and delicious - the 'mini fish and chips' made an ideal starter - and of course we needed a box to bring home what we couldn't manage to eat! Lovely to have a choice of teas - some very exotic. Merewood is a beautiful house, with stunning views across the Lake. This really was luxury on a bright and sunny afternoon - so relaxed, very attentive service from helpful and polite staff.

This was a birthday treat for my partner who loves an indulgent afternoon tea, and this one didn’t disappoint in the slightest and was thoroughly enjoyed by the both of us. We fortunately chose a lovely warm and sunny early spring day to go on and the Lake District is a beautiful setting in itself and Merewood Country House Hotel is situated in a lovely area with superb views over the lakes. The hotel is a lovely grand old place and we received a warm welcome upon arrival and were shown to our table, which was in a very pleasant room and set in front of the big windows overlooking the grounds and distant views of the lake and hills beyond. We were soon served our afternoon tea by the very friendly and polite staff and it was quite a delightful feast to behold! The food was freshly prepared and nicely presented on a long wooden tray. This afternoon tea is slightly different to most (which is partly why I chose it) in that they start off with mini fish and chips which was delicious and a nice change from normal. The mix of savoury and sweet treats was both very nice and very tasty with a good selection of fresh cakes and delights!! The scones were huge, but very fresh and light, with plenty of Cumbrian butter, clotted cream and jam to smother them with! All in all a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon, with a delightful cream tea enjoyed in a lovely setting - fully recommended. We will be back!!!

The setting, in the bay window overlooking Lake Windermere, Latterbarrow and the sun on the snow-capped Coniston fells was as wonderful as the food. Loved everything except the large teapots, which meant that by the time we poured-out the second cup, the tea was cold! Everything else was perfect and would thoroughly recommend 'Buy a Gift' and 'Afternoon Tea for Two at Merewood Country House Hotel'. We knew the approach on foot was up 96 steps through the lovely grounds ... we were ready for it and enjoyed that too. We travelled from Manchester b train to Windermere, then Bus 555 to Brockhole, crossed the road and just past Brockhole, we turned right up the drive to Merewoo Country House Hotel, which was in a beautiful location overlooking Lake Windermere and snowy peaks.
